No political ideology can replace the kingdom, nor does the kingdom of God rely on our political plans and priorities. Accordingly, we should participate in politics primarily to help others and to represent our Lord and Savior in the public square.

There are things said which are mistaken, more that are irresponsible, others harmful, still others unfaithful. Managing all four at once is a significant achievement. This is desperately wrong and I hope he corrects it.

Trying to pull together some thoughts that have been rattling around in my head. In particular, trying to highlight the crucial formative role that a genuinely upside-down, power-inverting, margin-centering community (i.e. the church) has for our vision of the gospel. Thoughts?

I can't mark Mother's Day without prayer and concern for the grieving moms and children of Covenant School in Nashville. May God help & comfort all who mourn. I can't do it without real distress over legislators who won't do a thing to reduce access to weapons of mass murder, who think the answer is even more guns, and cloak with faux piety their cowardice or unwillingness to act. They dare to call for prayer rather than call a legislative session to deal with the slaughter-plague. The best Mother's Day gift we could give this year is a future in which moms will endure less fear because their children live in a safer society. There's no utopia this side of eternity, but we can do better. Much better. Until then, weeping with those who weep remains the order of the day.

"I have heard some argue that all extraordinary revivals are preceded by intense prayer or deep spiritual hunger or some other work of human effort.… I simply don’t believe it. There is no formula. There is only God’s kindness and our response." mbird.com/the-magazine/on-th…

Let’s slow down and actually read the books we are endorsing, watch the movies we are critiquing and not comment or report without doing due diligence. I have a quota on my endorsements (sorry to those good works I could not endorse!) so that I can read and digest the work. – at Fort Lee, NJ

Only half of the pastor’s work is to gather the people together for worship. The other half is to send them back to their daily tasks equipped to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. If we forget this second part, the other can be positively dangerous.

What if God loves your body? What we've turned "your body is a temple" into a shaming mechanism, as though it were your job to be good enough, healthy enough, to MAKE your body into a temple? What if "your body is a temple" is, instead, a gift of grace?

President Zelenskyy is reminding Americans of our own history and values. He embodies the many reasons that moral character is the most important qualification for public leadership.

Thoughts on a historic visit— 1. It’s the end of status quo. The face to face will leave an imprint in Washington, like Churchill flying middle of the night to meet Roosevelt. 2.Zelensky is seizing a key moment in US politics, before isolationist Republicans take over House…

Whether Christians are near the center or on the margins of society, redemptive change happens at ‘Christianized connections’ (Kuyper). Through the church’s witness in its wider community, the Spirit creates a ‘middle grace’ (Leithart), where special grace illuminates common.
