Independent thinking is essential. The best decisions often emerge from constructive disagreement, not from everyone agreeing in the room. 2. Governance is about accountability. Leadership must be challenged, performance measured, and responsibilities clearly defined. 3. Think beyond the immediate results. Good leadership is not just about delivering this quarter’s numbers. It is about building institutions that can survive uncertainty and thrive in the long term. As someone in property development, I’m reminded that building a successful business goes beyond acquiring land, securing funding, or delivering projects. It also requires sound governance, disciplined decision-making, and the right people asking the difficult questions. My biggest takeaway: A strong board doesn’t exist to make leadership comfortable. It exists to make leadership better.
