The anti-slavery movement in Britain, which eventually stamped out by force most of the Muslim Arab slave trade in Africa, was formed by conservative businessmen & the "religious right" in Britain (William Wilberforce, Thomas Clarkson etc.), but @gryzzle4shyzzle's ignorant.
Replying to @racket_2023 @BraddockBessie
I am saying that any difference between the West and muslim world has come as a direct result of progressive, pro-labour, enlightenment era ideas and initiatives - against the direct and often violent opposition of the regressive conservatives on the right. ESPECIALLY the lot of females. That is why ANY posturing by the right about protecting women is pure bullshit to anyone with an even passing awareness of the last 700 years.
Oh look. According to the ignorant and hate-filled @gryzzle4shyzzle, abolishing slavery & thus protecting women was only a "greed-driven act", which only goes to show the truth is something this lunatic's not interested in. xitter.cf/gryzzle4shyzzle/status…

How convenient is it when you can attribute some sort of moral virtue to a purely greed-driven act. You might as well say the auto de fe was a good thing because they were saving heathen (meaning jewish and muslim) souls. Sit down, you pompous fuck.
Oh look. Yet again @gryzzle4shyzzle displays his total ignorance of history, and his habit of simply making things up. Unastounding, suchlike are often found. Piss off, @gryzzle4shyzzle.

Another quote-tweeter. You are pointing to a secondary benefit to an action that was driven by pure greed and calling it virtue. Ending "slavery" did nothing for your "unfortunates", did it? How were women protected?
You are liar and a pompous fucking moron. Shut the fuck up until you have something of a value to add.
Replying to @Gurdur @gryzzle4shyzzle
If you don't understand @gryzzle4shyzzle's stupidity, it's because at heart he's a cultural relativist, & a fan of similarly-empty-'leftist' @janeclarejones. Abolishing slavery & protecting women are only good to his tiny mind if the 'right' people do it.

so @janeclarejones is rapidly losing it badly. "Far right", LOL. Also, her "building" was mostly just her mini-empire-building *within* the movement; colour me totally unsympathetic to her.

Harvard’s “Jewish problem” is nothing new.
This day, the university held a mock trial of Adolf Hitler. All testimony about Nazi persecution of Jews was ruled irrelevant, and a panel of Harvard professors acquitted him on two of four charges.
The very same Harvard warmly welcomed Hitler’s foreign press chief and personal associate, Ernst “Putzi” Hanfstaengl, only months earlier. The Harvard Crimson had argued he deserved “the marks of honor appropriate to his high position in the government of a friendly country.”
Harvard maintained ties with Nazified German universities, hosted Nazi officials and naval officers, and limited Jewish enrollment. Events in 2023 and 2024 proved the legacy endured, as Harvard became a national symbol of campus antisemitism after October 7.

"It's virtue-signalling gone mad - Sinn Fein, the Social Democrats and the Labour Party all back legal change to allow stillborn babies be classified as 'non-binary'
The Bill was opposed by the Government, which cited concerns it would ‘amend’ how births, stillbirths and deaths are recorded by the General Register Office. It argued it would allow for a person registering a birth, and not a medical practitioner, to determine the sex of a person"

The slaughter of Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia’s Oromia region is an outrage.
More than 60 reportedly killed, including children. Homes burned. Families driven from their communities. The Church has warned repeatedly of these attacks, yet the killing continues.
The freedom to worship without fear is fundamental to human dignity. Those responsible must face justice, and the communities still under threat must be protected.
Canada must speak clearly in defence of religious freedom, wherever it is under assault.

No. Women have already done the work of getting ourselves separate toilets. If you want to exclude a subset of adult males from male bathrooms then you can do the work of finding somewhere else for them to go.
Replying to @helenstaniland
Get to work building a third set of bathrooms everywhere then, until you have that there's nothing you can really do.
This exact debate was had with gay people too, back in the day. We'll just have to sit around and wait for you guys to find another group to fearmonger against.

Absolutely delightful anecdote here. Idealism is a second hand marketplace
This is very good from, IMO, the most interesting modern political philosopher Joseph Heath.

I gently suggest that Ireland should first sort out its own descent into unpleasant antisemitism before it starts telling others how to build a respectful civic society.

This looks very interesting. I just finished a book on the psychology (and psychiatry) of, especially Nazi hate, so this is timely. Book your free ticket:
