"Inflation is down, incomes are strengthening, unemployment is very low, interest rates are coming down and now growth is picking up as well." More good news and more reasons to vote Labor for a second term of government.

In just two years, the Labor government have freed Australians Julian Assange, Cheng Lei, Sean Turnell and five of the Bali Nine from overseas prisons. Meanwhile, the LNP are scheming on ways that they can lock up your ten year old kids.

Rather than lowering expectations for struggling students, invest in building a stronger relationship with them; when they feel supported and valued, they are more likely to rise to meet those expectations.

#OnThisDay 80 years ago, PM John Curtin visited Kent Street State School for Citizenship Day, on the same street as the future site of Curtin University's campus. Curtin called on students to fulfill the better future Australia was fighting for. ow.ly/Axi650TJlFO

Graphing the tension in Europe from 1945 to 2005 as part of our revision in Year 12 Modern History. Great idea stolen from a @WA_HTA seminar.

An interesting point about double dissolutions. The power to grant a double dissolution is the only power of the Governor-General that cannot be exercised by the King. It is not a power inherited from the crown but one invented by the Constitution and so for the GG alone.

Two prime ministers: a newly re-digitised image from our collection: Prime Minister John Curtin (our namesake!) being met by the High Commissioner Stanley Bruce in London in April or May 1944. Bruce was PM in the 1920s and a former political opponent of Curtin's.
