Why it matters for Britain:
🔹 The result shapes Israel’s ability to confront Hamas, Hezbollah and the IRGC, threats that reach into the UK
🔹 Israel is a key UK intelligence and security partner
🔹 At home, Islamists have used anti-Israel framing, and it has tracked rising antisemitism and hardline electoral gains
Watch the small parties. A party needs 3.25% of the vote to win any seats; below that, its votes are wasted. Amcha Yisrael and the Reservists and Economy Party are both polling just under the line, and one of them crossing it could decide who governs.
The final polls point to deadlock. Netanyahu’s bloc averages 54 seats and the Eisenkot-led opposition 50, so neither reaches 61. Likud (23) and Yashar (21) are the largest parties. Polls vary, though, and some right-leaning outlets put Netanyahu’s bloc at 61.
The Knesset has 120 seats, elected by proportional representation. To govern, a coalition needs 61. No single party has ever won a majority on its own, so the real contest is over who can build a coalition.
Israel votes today. Polls close at 8pm UK time.
Here’s what to know, what to watch for, and why it matters for Britain. ⬇️

Israel votes today. Netanyahu faces his biggest electoral test since 7 October, but the battle for power may only begin once the votes are counted.

See my interview on @TimesRadio After the October 7 massacre, Netanyahu transformed Israel into a regional power that is indispensable for the US's strategic interests in the Middle East. Israel is projecting power more broadly across the region. Ironically while Israel is alienated by the UK and European states that are geopolitically irrelevant by playing to their Islamist political base, Israel is coming closer to Arab states such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The Henry Jackson Society welcomes the Government’s decision to accept in full the recommendations to end antisemitism in schools and colleges.
Many of these measures reflect what HJS has called for in our research on antisemitism in higher education, in particular media literacy to help young people recognise antisemitic conspiracy theories online, adoption of the IHRA definition, better reporting procedures, consistent disciplinary action, and proper staff training.
