There's a fundamental limit to how long a quantum system can hold information. It's called the Fourier limit, and it's set by physics itself, not engineering. Max Planck Institute scientists just reached it. They placed a single molecule on a crystal surface cooled to near absolute zero. Zero noise. Zero interference. Coherence time hit the theoretical maximum.

In the shelter of the Hundred Acre Wood they stood up straight again, to listen, a little nervously, to the roaring of the gale among the tree-tops. “Supposing a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?” “Supposing it didn’t,” said Pooh after careful thought. ~A.A.Milne

You all need to understand that there is a well-funded movement to kill Wikipedia as an institution. The dream of an internet that provided universal access to knowledge was a mirage. It threatened too many powerful people, so now we have AI summaries and illiteracy.
Can we also talk about how Wikipedia entries are no longer at the top of a search 😭

A #Roman helmet, with a cap resembling hair, cheek-pieces (which include ears!), & brow- & neck-guards. It is decorated with scenes & figures from Roman myth - a way to bring divine protection to the wearer, perhaps #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology

john snow figured out dirty drinking water was causing a cholera outbreak at this specific water pump in london and that lead to water treatment which saved millions if not billions of lives
I’ve asked this before but is there any historical event that is like the Opposite of 9/11. Like something so good that happened that it changed the world forever

Funny how many people who don't use wheelchairs or have any issues with their vision are commenting on my Oxford Street post with their knowledge of using a wheelchair or having issues with vision. The non-disabled person with their experience eh? I'd love to see them try it.

This brass at St Mary's, Deerhurst contains two portraits in one. It was commissioned by Dame Alice Cassey on the death of her husband Sir John Cassey in 1400. She is shown with her dog at her feet and uniquely it's name Terri/Cerri is depicted as well. #31DaysofGraves
