An honor to share the stage with @GretaThunberg to stand up for an equitable fossil fuel phase out, youth access to the UN, and a conflict of interest policy! #effpo

I had the amazing opportunity to support this effort both as a student @ASUGlobalFuture and post-grad through my work with @AmandaEllisGEM!
A HUGE win for climate and sustainability education!!

🌍COP28 Policy Debrief 🌍
Read our policy debrief to understand what countries agreed on at COP28 and what this means for the equitable fossil fuel phase-out that we need.
More updates to come!

The UAE consensus, or should I say, UAE compromise should not be celebrated.
Focuses on reducing emissions alone and carbon capture tech is dangerous.
Living on an island, I know this package will not keep our communities safe and compromises our future for profits.
198 parties have united behind The UAE Consensus. A new path for the world. An enhanced, balanced and historic package to accelerate climate action.

Fossil fuels are not just heating up the planet— they are displacing communities, they are polluting, they are spilling, they are poisoning…
That’s why *reducing emissions* *only* isn’t the answer— the whole industry needs to be phased out because it’s extractive and dangerous

To those who opposed a clear reference to phase out of fossil fuels during the #COP28 Climate Conference, I want to say:
Whether you like it or not, fossil fuel phase out is inevitable. Let’s hope it doesn’t come too late.
This COP isn’t making history in tackling climate change. It will be remembered as the COP the solidified the destruction of our islands, vulnerable communities, and future generations. Let’s not get wrapped up in the grand illusion of this COP, it is a failure.
Saying “we didn’t know the red lines of countries” is a slap in the face. He knew the read lines, they were just ignored.
We are facing the most demanding COP agenda in history. The COP28 Presidency remains steadfast in calling for the highest possible ambition.
We are relentlessly committed to helping the Parties agree the best plan they can for the world.

The last ones standing. I don’t know what is more empty, the lines or the text of the global stocktake?
The current text on fossil fuels @COP28_UAE is like my mom asking me if I could take out the trash, instead of telling me to take out the trash.
Which are you more likely to do?
John Kerry just said this is a war for survival. There’s an army of young leaders outside and around the world that will not back down from the fight ti end the era of fossil fuels.

#COP28 stocktake draft reax…
Marshall Isl "we did not come here to sign our death warrant…What we have seen today is unacceptable"
@AOSISChair "completely insufficient"
@Rlalen "incoherent and dangerous"
@HaileyPCampbell "horrible"
@1TeresaAnderson "staggeringly empty"
If countries want to take our future away from us by continuing a reliance on fossil fuels, then they’re going to have to look us in the eye as they do so.
Tomorrow is too late. End fossil fuels now.

@careboutclimate slams the new draft text, and reflects on how this moment is making her lose trust in the climate negotiations process. #COP28
A meeting, three years in the making!
Appreciate SPEC Kerry taking time to meet with us and look forward to more collaborative opportunities in the future.

Attended the Majlis session of world leaders at @COP28_UAE where leaders questioned who would solve the climate crisis if not for them. The answer: young people like me.
It took all I had to not raise my hand and show the room we were there listening to them debate our future.
Islands are like the youngest sibling, always fighting to be heard, meanwhile the middle children, like UK, LMDCs, and US, that hide behind de oldest sibling, and the oldest siblings, like the Arab Group, take up space and air arguing when they know they’re wrong.
