For those in the hat game
I’m looking for a moisture wicking/preformance style 🧢 to wear while working out
The Youpoongs, and some of the Richardson’s are too tall for my dome
Any suggestions are welcome @barbarianfitco @trinity2pointO
Still my favorite chest movement that @trinity2pointO introduced me to a couple of years ago
This Incline Press Fly targets that outer chest and gives you a DEEP stretch in the fibers
Biggest takeaway here is to control the DBs and not try to get too deep when you first start
Taking the long term approach to building my body back has been extremely challenging
Managing volume and intensity across the shoulder, hips, and low back has been very frustrating
Feels like I’m making very little progress, but I have not missed a training session in a month
WOD
45 minutes AMRAP
11 cal bike
11 ground to OH (45# plate)
200m DB farmer carry (50#)
6 rounds 22 reps in 38:42
Took longer to warm up than I should have and had an early appointment so time had to be cut short.
NGL I wasn’t upset 😅 grip is trashed!

The Great Pumpkin Workout
10-31-10-31
Wall balls (20lbs)
Toes To Bar
Burpees
200m run holding your pumpkin
Time 25:21
Had an incredible time working out with my youngest this morning! He was so excited for his pumpkin workout!
I love using leg extensions to prime the quads before front squats
And hamstring curls to prime the hamstrings before back squats
Makes the movements much smoother
Suffering from low back pain?
When’s the last time you focused on your core?
Here is one part of a core strengthening plan I’ve used to build up the spinal erectors
Had some work to finish up last night, but ended up passing out, so after taking care of that this morning I’m about 45 minutes behind my usual training schedule
Mostly rehab stuff this morning, so I’m very unmotivated 😅 but nonetheless it’s getting done
Lifestyle optimization > textbook optimization
Why optimal isn't real
Had a call with a client this morning
Golfer's elbow issues. Weight lifts 4-5x a week, rolls BJJ, bit of a homesteader so he's always activ
We came to a solution: back off some pulling volume in the gym, wear straps to lessen load on the elbow, keep rolling as tolerable and start my rehab program.
But here's what I didn't tell him during the call
This isn't the most optimal way to heal
The absolute best way to heal would be to discontinue everything that bothers him and go through the 12 week protocol
But I'm not making him do that
Why?
Because optimal doesn't exist in the real world
Sure, he could do everything I mentioned above and be 100% pain-free in 3 months
Sounds good, right?
Well, there's a problem with that plan
It would be taking away most of the things he loves. He'd hate my program. Probably hate me too
So instead, I'd rather meet in the middle and adapt rehab to his lifestyle
Is it the best way to get healthy on paper?
No
In practicality?
Absolutely
I'd rather you be able to stick to something 70% effective 100% of the time than try to follow something 100% effective 50% of the time (or less)
Nothing's quite that black and white, obviously
Will his elbow take 5-6 months to heal instead of 3?
Maybe. It very well could
But he's gonna enjoy every step of the way. And he isn't rushing back for some arbitrary deadline
That's why adherence > optimal every single time.
And optimal isn't really real anyway
Strength

400m run
21 kettlebell swings (53)
12 pull-ups

Was hoping to have a better time, but I didn’t get time capped!
Woke up feeling every single sit up, lunge, and step over from yesterday’s workout
Did not want to get out of bed, much less go to the gym
Told myself to just do some mobility and stretches
15 minutes later I’m in the car otw to the gym
Sometimes you just need small steps 👊
The quicker you make the is realization, the more effective your recovery will be
WOD
3 rounds for time
- 30 GHD sit-ups (parallel)
- 100’ walking lunges holding 20lb med ball
- 30 box step overs holding 20lb med ball
Time 17:21
Skill work
5 minute AMRAP for 5 rounds
1 wall walk and 1 pull-up (+25 lbs) for each round
Total reps 21
An entire week of training with any injury setbacks!
Shoulder is gaining more stability and strength
Hips are moving really well through Olympic lifts
Low back is handling loading and volume as long as I manage the intensity
Been a long time since I’ve felt this good!
2 lbs of pork tenderloin $7
1 pack of cheesy broccoli rice $1
1 bag of frozen veggies $1.5
2-3 meals for under $10
Solid balance of protein, carb, and fat
Doesn’t have to be complicated
