#China puts restrictions on banks to prevent capital flight, says @NAR. New rules include stricter oversight of banks, restrictions on real estate developers' access to foreign currency bonds, it says, amid worries of weaker yuan. asia.nikkei.com/Business/Mar…

Critical element of China's retaliatory tariffs on US exports is the huge difference between tariffs vs the US and vs other exports, putting US at massive disadvantage, shows @ChadBown: piie.com/blogs/trade-and-inv…

Fascinating insight into a suppressed World Bank & Development Research Center study on Chinese SOE reform. Although it has shrunk, China’s state sector involvement in its economy is at the heart of trade tensions. #China #ChinaEconomy #USChina #TradeWar beta.washingtonpost.com/worl…

Bringing back US manufacturing of low tech stuff like garments may be a politically popular message, but won’t happen in reality. #china #uschina #uschinarelations #usmanufacturing
“Eighty-two percent of the sourcing managers surveyed by McKinsey say the production of simple garments will be fully automated by 2025. If they’re right, production is coming back -- but the jobs aren’t.” bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

A victory for democracy. Kudos to the HK citizenry who studied the issue, understood its implications, and confronted the problem head on until it was corrected. #Extradition #HongKong #HongKongExtradition

Fellow China followers-any good sources that announce upcoming economics/trade conferences in China that you’d recommend? Ideally, I’m looking for some that project out as far as possible. Feel free to reply or message me. #China #ChinaEconomy #USChina #USChinaTrade #ChinaTrade

Beautiful.... citizens are demonstrating against a law that would allow China to extradite Hong Kongers, as they know the consequences. An informed, wise, & responsive citizenry very reminiscent of what I saw during the handover 22 years ago. #China #ExtraditionBill #HongKong
THIS IS MORE THAN 1 MILLION PEOPLE MARCHING! Say no to extradition to China! Proud to be HongKonger! #HongKong

Another trade war development... China’s NDRC (their economic policy making body) has introduced measures which will further restrict US investment in China. This is getting complicated. #USChina #China #ChinaEconomy #TradeWar
And the regs just keep on coming. NDRC is planning on establishing a national technology security list, with concrete measures forthcoming. This in addition to the unreliable entity list. Tech MNCs look like they’ll have to jump through more and more hoops in the near future
The IMF splits their forecasted economic effects from the US-China trade war by (1) direct (2) market & (3) confidence effects. Kudos....most folks forget about the confidence effects #USChina #China #TradeWar #ChinaEconomy #Tariffs xitter.gq/HammeringTrade/status/… xitter.gq/HammeringTrade/status/…
Protectionism hurts the economy & mostly affects the poor.Since the US mostly imports consumer electronics & manufacturing goods from China & those sectors are on thin margins, the ⬆️ costs are largely passed to consumers & manufacturers.#China #TradeWar blogs.imf.org/2019/06/05/how…
