In 1860, an enslaved man named Sheppard Peek was listed among the possessions of William Peek. His value was placed at $1,400, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They put a price on his body, but they could NEVER put a limit on his bloodline’s potential! THAT is the POWER of our ancestors’ resilience! Congratulations to Sheppard Peek’s great-great-granddaughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms, on making history!

Dear Stacey Abrams, This moment is dedicated to YOU. Before Keisha Lance Bottoms made history as the first Black woman elected governor in America, you dared to show us that it was possible. You ran when the road was uncertain. You stood tall when the outcome wasn’t what we’d hoped. And instead of allowing defeat to define your story, you continued the work of making sure our voices were heard. Your courage, your grace, your commitment to voting rights, and your power to organize helped lay the groundwork for a Georgia that looks different today. And while we celebrate this historic victory and the wave of change sweeping across the country, we cannot forget the women who helped make moments like this possible. Stacey, we see you. We thank you. And we give you your flowers. Video: @thezactivist

THIS....ALL DAY.....
If you watch only one video today, you should watch this edit with @SymoneDSanders from last night, speaking on the 92%. And when I tell you I’ve watched it three or four times and get choked up every time— this one hits hard.

To the Black women standing on the right side of history: You show up for a country that rarely shows up for you. Despite the relentless scapegoating, the anti-DEI attacks, the misogynoir, and being expected to carry the weight alone, you stood on the front lines once again and defended democracy. You lead with power, principle, and an unmatched commitment to freedom, even when other communities fail to reciprocate, and even when people within our own community trade solidarity for proximity to power, self-enrichment, and Whiteness. You deserve far more than thank-yous after an election; you deserve protection, respect, resources, and your flowers every single day. We see you, we honor you, and we owe you. 🙏🏽💙💐 #Midterms2026 #ThankYou #BlackWomen

Google announcing that schools banning AI will also lose access to Google Search is a pretty good opportunity to teach the next generation that Google isn’t the internet and that there are plenty of alternatives to its platforms. Maybe it’s time schools started exploring them.

Special shout out to all the Black people who stayed out of the streets, but showed up to the polls. Especially in the state of Texas where Black people showed up to vote harder for an Hispanic woman for governor than actual Hispanics did.

This comment by Andy Burnham on my old paper and Mail deserves wider audience, much like Fox News' influence in America it turns out 'the world's not like that anymore....'
"Sorry, the world's not like that anymore" Andy Burnham tells @DanielHewittITV he cares less than other prime ministers about what the traditional media, like The Sun and The Daily Mail, think of him

As with much of their reporting on Arday, the impunity with which these outlets publish flagrant inaccuracies in order to protect themselves from scrutiny and justify ill-conceived editorial decisions is staggering.
I mean… I should have to explain this to @DomPonsford, @pressgazette or @jgro_the. Receiving a letter that does not say rights are reserved, or mention defamation or injunction, is de facto NOT A LEGAL THREAT They are either ignorant, or wilfully misconstruing

"Jason Arday is no longer with us because of a pack of lies and a largely racist mainstream media. The fact that there are a few Black people in some senior positions means nothing" - @richardsudan
"The fact that the British Press Awards have seemingly vindicated this media lynching is a scathing indictment of the anti-Black racism which has engulfed the mainstream media in Britain" - by @richardsudan 👇🏾

As someone who, as Executive Editor of @BylineTimes, has received on average a legal threat a week for over 7 years, I find it pretty outrageous and disconcerting that our trade magazine should traduce and misrepresent what real investigative journalism involves
I’ve just read this justification for the Jason Arday nomination for @jgro_the from @DomPonsford and @pressgazette As a matter of accuracy, this is an outright misrepresentation. There were no ‘legal threats’ in Arday’s lawyers’ letter. Read it here taxpolicy.org.uk/wp-content/…

That it took 250 years for a Native American to lead an American state is just wild.

I call it the Wickerman Defence, and I first cottoned onto it 15 years ago when the press were trying to make themselves the **real** victims of the phone hacking scandal. Erect a straw man. Insert yourself in it. Then light a match of aggressive victimhood

Thats why I do not put much store in this platform wsiththeir racist and inaccurate community notes
Despite what the silly "community note" says, "Africans sold Africans into slavery" is nonsense. It's about as historically accurate as saying "Hitler bombed his own people in the East End of London". It reflects a deep ignorance of African history and societies BBC debate:

NEW! Joy Coker, Editor of @alt_africa has resigned from the Press Gazette British Journalism Awards 2026 judging panel. This decision comes as she learned British journalist @jgro_the was shortlisted for an award for this article on Jason Arday. In a media statement shared with the Voice she said: "I have resigned from the judging panel of the Press Gazette British Journalism Awards 2026 after learning that Jack Grove has been shortlisted for this year’s awards. To be clear, I only shortlist nominations in the Arts and Culture category. Jack Grove’s nomination was not in my judging category and did not come before me. However, as a judge, I cannot remain part of a panel while I feel unable to stand by a decision associated with the awards. As the founder of the Black British Journalism Awards 2027, an initiative established to support fairer journalism for Black and brown people in the UK, it would be deeply contradictory for me to remain involved in another journalism award that goes against what I stand for. I have been a judge for the past four years and it has been a positive experience. However, I cannot continue to be part of something that goes against my values and personally sickens me. I have asked to be removed from any related materials. I do not know whether the shortlist will be upheld or whether Jack Grove’s nomination will be removed. This statement is made without sensationalism. It reflects my personal decision, my professional commitment to the standards I believe journalism should uphold, and my commitment to racial equality.
