The #DeathPenalty violates #HumanRights and dignity. It doesn’t deter crime, is cruel and risks killing innocents. The EU reaffirms its opposition to capital punishment at all times and circumstances. See our Charter of Fundamental Rights on @EURLex. ➡️ link.europa.eu/nwMCnV

Cellist #MischaMaisky and pianist #MarthaArgerich 🎻🎶🎹 Mischa Maisky often remarks Martha had played with many violinists, but never with cellists until him, though she deeply loved the cello. He considered himself "very lucky" to be that first cellist 🎶🥰

70 years ago today, in 1956, Hungarians took to the streets demanding freedom, sovereignty and the right to determine their own future. Their courage reminds us that these values cannot be taken for granted. They are a shared responsibility and a legacy we must carry forward.

This has been Putin's dream for years: That his country, with GDP per capita lower than Poland, unable to conquer Donbas since 2014, will be treated as an equal to the US and China. wsj.com/world/russia/putin-f…

PS I’ve met Putin many times and listened in on calls with him as well. I also speak Russian. Yes he is soft spoken, deliberate, and measured. So what? He’s still a killer. He still launched a barbaric invasion of Ukraine, that has produced tragic loss of life not seen on this scale in Europe since WWII.
