Trump is creating giant market fluctuations with his on-again, off-again tariffs.
These constant gyrations in policy provide dangerous opportunities for insider trading.
Who in the administration knew about Trump's latest tariff flip flop ahead of time? Did anyone buy or sell stocks, and profit at the public’s expense?
I'm writing to the White House — the public has a right to know.

We just witnessed the full Trump cycle.
1) Make horrible policy decision.
2) Create lot of pain.
3) Falsely claim problem is solved.
4) Reverse course.
5) Leave things worse than before.
Rinse. Repeat.

The stages in a Donald Trump deal:
1. Lie about something being a problem
2. Do something to "fix" it, which causes an actual problem
3. Say you won't reverse what you've done
4. Reverse what you've done
5. Say "Art of the deal"

Competitiveness
Why is Malaysia in decline? World Bank Economist Apurva attributes the leading cause to a lack of competitiveness. He is spot on. We have become a nation suffering from systemic mediocrity. Over the years, our leaders would not utter a single word where they would proclaim “merit “ and ability” high on their list of priorities.
The first place competitiveness must reside is at public institutions. Look at our universities. Our public universities offer the same salaries to their lecturers and professors.
Yet these universities provide a different route, with different standards, on how to be promoted. So, we may have thousands of PhD holders with varying qualities of scholarship but earning the same salary! How do our students excel and be competitive?
When our top public servants, such as the Director General and the KSUs, are appointed, the govt does not tell us their qualifications and record of service. The civil service serves the public, and therefore, we should know about their appointment and removal.
When the Director General of Tourism was removed recently, did the govt tell us why? No. They should because the removal may have been wrongly decided. It may not be in the public interest
Top civil servants are crucial to the progress of the country. When they are competent, they can implement policies well. Yet, civil service operates behind a wall of secrecy, like in the days of the Shang dynasty. This has to change. When there is a wall of secrecy, good civil servants may be sidestepped or even removed. How do we protect civil service if it operates under such condition
If the govt is serious about reforms, the civil service is one place where there should be competitiveness, and the policy of recruiting the best must be in place. The wall of secrecy about the runnings of the civil service must be broken down.
Already, we are limited in recruiting the best politicians in the Cabinet because only the party people get the job, and they must be loyalists first. For that reason, it is so essential that the civil service be filled with those who can do the job. Otherwise, in thirty years, we will still be lamenting our lack of competitiveness in the country

The Renaissance Man - Anwar Ibrahim?
Adzhar Ibrahim is a good writer. He writes regularly for FMT. You have to be that good to write for FMT
Adzhar asks if there is a middle ground for Islam in Malaysia. The answer is a qualified no-no. Islam, the religion, has morphed into politics for the Malays. Politics is about power, and political Islam has been cultivated since 1980 with gusto. You could say that the climax of political Islam's ascension to power was when Anwar Ibrahim took office
It took Christianity 500 years of internecine warfare between the Papal power(Catholics ) and the rest of the Christian faith for them to make peace with one another. Then, they decided to have a new beginning with the birth of the Renaissance. They decided to keep faith in the individuals to determine their beliefs and limit the power of the state to regulate beliefs.
It will take the rivalry between groups of Muslims seeking political power in the country that much time before they make peace. But the question is whether the country can wait that long before it slowly disintegrates as a poor, mediocre country, surpassed by all our neighbours. The question is whether other Malaysians will wait that long before they migrate to more advanced countries where their skills and talents are required
The middle ground will only happen by the implosion of the power of the clerics. But that’s not happening. There is no middle ground between those who believe they are righteous /the learned. There is no discourse possible among them.
Today in Malaysia, there is no letting up from the competing sides to enlarge their armies of followers, religious department officials, NGOs, academics, etc. Our schools and universities have a large following of Islamist groups. The “moderates” can hope for the emergence of the middle ground, but there is no visible sign of that happening
Is Anwar a Muslim moderate?? Can he lay the middle ground? Yes, he is if his speeches are any indication. However, the challenge from Malay groups with PAS leading the way is difficult to overcome. Anwar has to reform, not by speeches, but by actions, the whole education system. He must use the power of the mind to defeat extremism. Only reason and logic can create enough push for a renaissance awakening
If Anwar resorts to more of the same approach- PAS clerics' interpretations of Islam are wrong( “jumud” ), then the rivalry will continue for the next 500 years. If Anwar is genuinely a “Renaissance Man”, then he must free the people to read books to encourage science and mathematics. He must not censor anything he disapproves of.
He must not hide behind Sec 233 of the Multimedia Act, the Sedition Act. He must be willing to use RTM to organise debates on the most contentious issues. Is he trusting enough to let Malaysians free? That’s the key to the middle ground

I commend Human Resources Minister YB @scheekeong on extending assistance to migrant workers who have been allegedly duped by recruitment agents promising to secure them jobs.
As MP Pengerang, I had reached out to YB Steven Sim as I am told that about 2500 of these duped migrants are in Pengerang. This is only the tip of the iceberg. The culprits behind this syndicate must be held accountable and immediate investigations must be carried out on who issued these permits with no jobs available.
The responsibility and role of all companies involved should also investigated to determine how legitimate migrant workers could be exploited and enticed with promises of work in Malaysia.
These are crimes against humanity. We must not tolerate violation against human rights including in the business sector. It is time to take firm action against irresponsible businesses.

Something is changing in America
I saw Dave Chappell last night at Boston TD Garden. It was sold out so I would say 22,000 people there. 3/4 into the show he said I want to address what’s going on in Palestine and Israel.
He specifically said Palestine and said it before Israel. He said what happened on October 7 wasn’t right but also what’s going on isn’t right and not just. You can’t kill innocent civilians like that and the whole world sits silently and watches. Then someone shouted at him from the crowd shut the F up Dave. He then went nuts and yelled back no you shut the F up. you don’t take tens of billions from my country to go kill innocent women and children and come and tell me to shut the F up.
He said don’t come begging for money from my country and then go drop bombs on children and cut off innocent people water and electricity. You have the audacity to pay to come see me and then tell me shut the F up no you shut the F up. The crowd started clapping and cheering for him and saying yes Dave and chants of free Palestine and then he said you’re damn right free Palestine.
He went on a 15 minutes rant about being a Muslim and that the Israelis are projecting what’s wrong with them on Muslims and the crowd kept on cheering. It was surreal.
Crowd was typical Boston demographic 80% white. 5% black and the rest Latin and others.

.@DavidSacks emphasizes Israel's right to respond to the Hamas terrorists who targeted innocent Israeli civilians. However, he also highlights the terrorists' objective is to provoke an overreaction.
@Jason questions the goal behind the terrorist attack on Israel?
In my view, Iran, the primary sponsor of Hamas, is attempting to provoke an overreaction from Israel to thwart economic and defensive treaties between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Iran's larger aim is to prevent its geopolitical adversaries from establishing a formal regional alliance.
Just last month, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) said that Saudi Arabia was moving "closer" to a historic normalization deal with Israel, potentially involving a military pact with the United States, requiring US defense in exchange for diplomatic ties with Israel.
Saudi Arabia is also seeking advanced American weaponry similar to what the UAE received in its normalization agreement with Israel, including F-35 fighter jets, MQ-9 Reaper drones, and precision-guided missiles.
Ongoing negotiations even include the possibility of Saudi Arabia developing a civilian nuclear program with US assistance.
The India-Middle East-Europe-Economic Corridor (IMEC) is another significant development announced at the G20 last month.
IMEC establishes a trade route between India and the EU bypassing Iran, with Saudi Arabia and Israel playing key roles.
The US views IMEC, which includes a shipping route connecting India with the UAE and a rail network connecting Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel, as a tool to formalize economic ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
MBS hopes the Saudi-Israeli deal will "reach a place that will ease the life of the Palestinians."
"For us, the Palestinian issue is very important. We need to solve that part."
Before the Hamas attacks, Saudi Arabia and Israel were moving closer to a historic normalization deal.
That deal will be extremely challenging, if not impossible, with war raging between Israel and Hamas and innocent Palestinians caught in the middle.
@DavidSacks adds, "I'm very concerned that one of the purposes here of the terrorists was to provoke an overreaction like the US engaged in after 9/11. Remember, we were viciously attacked, we were wounded.
We then lashed out and plunged into two decades of wars in the Middle East. What was the result of that? We lost thousands of lives, our own soldiers, and we spent trillions.
Millions of people on the other side died. And at the end of the day, we only changed the geopolitical map of the Middle East in ways that were ultimately unfavorable for us...
I think that one of the goals of terrorists is to create such an outrage, such a provocation, that they will bait the other side into an overreaction. I'm quite concerned that could happen here..."

Yang sekolah tahfiz kena tutup tu sebab tak ikut spec. Bukannya sebab DAP.
Ingat tak kes pelajar tahfiz meninggal dkt Dato Keramat? Ya, bomba kata bangunan tu sendiri tak ikut safety. Sekolah pun tak berdaftar.
Selain tu, pernah tengoklk budak-budak kena kerah kutip derma, tapi mudir pakai Alphard?

I don't believe it is fair to judge UMNO BN just yet. Any analysis done by experts including KJ will be flawed and biased.
DAP was made the bogeyman for decades. 8 months cannot undo 50+ years of propaganda. Vote transferability will eventually happen IF:
1. BN works hard and focuses on serving the people in the next 4.5 years.
2. UMNO + DAP continue to work well together.
I said this years ago and I repeat the same today - the only way forward for this country is if UMNO's base and DAP's base comes together. PKR as mediator can unite both the left and right.
Balance. Kesederhanaan. That is what Malaysia was founded upon.
