Chinese researchers have developed the best shortest-path algorithm in 41 years! Dijkstra’s Algorithm has been the undefeated king of the shortest path for over 40 years. Whether you’re using Google Maps, booking a flight, or routing internet packets, Dijkstra is the engine running in the background. Since 1984, textbooks have taught that its efficiency was hit by a "sorting barrier." To find the shortest path, you have to sort the points by distance. And sorting has a mathematical floor you can’t cross. Until now. A research team from Tsinghua University just published a paper that shatters the 41-year-old record. They proved that Dijkstra is not optimal. By combining the logic of the Bellman-Ford algorithm with a revolutionary "recursive partial ordering" method, they figured out how to find the path without fully sorting the nodes. The results are a massive shift in theoretical computer science: - The first deterministic improvement to the Single-Source Shortest Path (SSSP) problem since 1984. - A new time complexity of $ O(m \log^{2/3} n)$, officially beating the long-standing $ O(m + n \log n)$ limit. - On massive sparse graphs (like the web or global logistics), this means finding the best route significantly faster than previously thought possible. For four decades, the greatest minds in algorithms believed this limit was absolute. Last year, even the legendary Robert Tarjan won an award proving Dijkstra was "optimally efficient" at sorting distances. Tsinghua’s answer? Stop sorting. The world’s most settled problem is suddenly wide open again. If we can break a 40-year-old law in basic graph theory, what other "impossible" speed limits are waiting to be crushed?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
In real world testing it was found to be slower than Dijkstra. “We compare these implementations against Dijkstra's algorithm on sparse random graphs, grids, and U.S. road networks[...] Dijkstra's algorithm remains 3 to 4 times faster in all tested scenarios.” arxiv.org/abs/2511.03007

Today we are launching @ZommaLabs What started as a 2am library project to build a computer use agent -> 100s conversations with hedge funds, payments, fintechs -> getting into @ycombinator -> starting with a billion dollar compliance problem that computer use is uniquely good at = collecting and synthesizing ever increasing info to solve a complex, close bounded high variance human problem we are only getting started with building better back office for finance using frontier computer use. @CashelFitz @varumugam07 @_theodorayy 🔥
Financial institutions paid $3.8B in AML fines last year while spending $206B on financial crime compliance, with labor its largest cost. Today we're launching Zomma (@ycombinator S26) AI operations employees for finance back offices. We start with compliance: for every cross-border transaction alert, our agent works the case end to end on the same screens your analysts use: gathers the evidence, writes the assessment, drafts the RFI. No APIs. Onboarding is an SOP and a login. 92% on OSWorld. Live compliance-ops pilots with a US RIA and a $10B AUM wealthtech. If you run compliance or financial-crime ops, or know someone who does, let's talk → zommalabs.com.

Today we’re launching Opensteer. Instead of one general agent, build a specialized agent for each job. Give each only the access it needs, with rules it can’t bypass. Run them on your Mac. When you close your laptop, the same agents pick up right where they left off in the cloud.

New reports from today indicate that this Indian tanker fell for a fake IRGC crypto scam. They paid USDT to the scammers, thinking they could now pass through freely, and got shot at by the real IRGC forces. First time a crypto transaction led directly to maritime warfare? 💀

Excited to announce the launch of Phemeral.dev! If you’re a Python developer and have been frustrated by the tedium of managing your deployment and hosting, Phemeral was made for you. Phemeral is a hosting platform made specifically for Python web services. It makes it super easy to deploy, host, and scale Python services. It removes the complexity of packaging your own code and managing your own compute. With Phemeral, you can write your Python services with your preferred framework (e.g. FastAPI, Flask, Django, Litestar) and package manager (e.g. uv, Pip, Poetry), no need for a special configuration file or otherwise. Connect your GitHub repo to Phemeral, and it will automatically host your app on Phemeral’s managed cloud. Continuous deployment comes out of the box: when you push to your repo, Phemeral automatically redeploys the new code. A couple projects that people have hosted on Phemeral: thesnapbridal.com, a platform that connects couples with photographers garden-cms.itsnisu.xyz, a flexible, dynamic, and modern python based cms If you have a Python application you’d like to host, deploy it with Phemeral!

i'm not satoshi, but I was early in laser focus on the positive societal implications of cryptography, online privacy and electronic cash, hence my ~1992 onwards active interest in applied research on ecash, privacy tech on cypherpunks list which led to hashcash and other ideas.

What does BIP-360 actually change? mitbitcoinexpo.org/blog/what… (2 min read) We put together some thoughts to flesh the picture out, including perspectives from builders speaking at the Expo in a few weeks. What do you think about what's being built in quantum right now?FUD? No?
JUST IN: A testnet for Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360 has been deployed, which aims to strengthen Bitcoin against quantum 👀

The 20 millionth bitcoin just entered into circulation via block 940,073. Less than 1 million bitcoin remain available to be mined; it will take over a century to do so.

Two days ago BIP360, a proposal aimed at helping quantum-proof Bitcoin, a.k.a. "Pay to Quantum Resistant Hash" (P2QRH), was merged into the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal Github repo. youtube.com/watch?v=4NoJnPmC… At last year’s MIT Bitcoin Expo, BIP360 author Hunter Beast ( @cryptoquick ) sat down with Shinobi ( @brian_trollz ) from @BitcoinMagazine where he gave an extremely approachable description of the problem his proposal tries to solve, and overview of the issues related to the issues quantum computing poses to Bitcoin and cryptography in general. xitter.cf/i/trending/20218551360… Of course we’ll be talking about quantum at MIT Bitcoin Expo 2026 – we may just have some panelists who were deeply involved in the BIP in our lineup. Stay tuned in the upcoming days for details. And get your early bird tickets now! engage.mit.edu/mitbtc/rsvp_b…
