Dayo (not his real name), a 26-year-old phone shop attendant, never imagined that selling a second-hand phone could lead to months in detention.
In July 2026, a customer purchased a fairly used Tecno phone from the shop where Dayo worked. When the phone was later traced to the customer, he was arrested and reportedly identified Dayo as the seller.
For four months, he waited.
When his former lawyer abandoned the case, Dayo’s situation became even more uncertain. Then Headfort Foundation stepped in to provide free legal representation.
On 13 October 2026, the case came up in court. The court noted that the complainant had consistently failed to appear since the arraignment. The matter was subsequently struck out.
After four months in custody, Dayo finally had an opportunity to regain his freedom.
But Dayo’s story is not an isolated case. Across Nigeria, many people remain behind bars because they cannot afford legal representation or meet bail conditions.
At Headfort Foundation, we believe that poverty should never determine who gets justice.
Your donation helps us provide free legal aid to people like Dayo, whose lives and freedom depend on access to justice.
Give hope. Fund freedom. Support justice.

Behind every prison wall is a story. A family waiting. A life interrupted. A person who deserves justice but cannot afford to fight for it.
At Headfort Foundation, we believe poverty should never be the reason someone remains behind bars. Through free legal aid, we have helped reclaim lives, reunite families, and restore hope.
This year, we set a goal to secure the release of 300 poor and wrongly incarcerated inmates. We reached that goal. 300 lives changed. 300 families given hope.
But thousands are still waiting.
From 23–29 November 2026, our final Fundraising Week of the year is an opportunity to help bring freedom and justice to even more people who urgently need it.
Your donation could help someone access legal representation, challenge wrongful incarceration, and finally return home to their loved ones.
One donation. One opportunity for justice. One life that could change forever.
Let's make freedom possible for more people.

As part of the implementation of our project to advance the enactment of the Ekiti State Correctional Service Law, supported by the @ominirahq , we commenced engagements with key justice sector stakeholders to build understanding, secure buy-in and gain support for the proposed reform.
Through courtesy visits to key institutions, including the Office of the Honourable Chief Judge, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch, the Department of Legal Drafting, the Law Reform Commission and the Legal Aid Council, we have engaged relevant actors on the importance of the proposed law.
These engagements have received encouraging responses, with stakeholders recognising the need to strengthen correctional administration, promote rehabilitation and reintegration, and improve justice delivery in Ekiti State.
The engagements are part of the groundwork for the upcoming Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the Enactment of the Ekiti State Correctional Service Law, which will bring key actors together to discuss the opportunities, implications and practical steps towards enacting the law.
Through this initiative, we are working to build the collaboration and stakeholder support needed to advance a more effective and humane correctional system in Ekiti State.

WE SET A GOAL. WE REACHED IT. BUT OUR WORK IS FAR FROM OVER.
At the beginning of 2026, we set out to help 300 poor and wrongly incarcerated people regain their freedom. Today, we are proud to have achieved that goal!
300 lives reclaimed. 300 families given hope. 300 stories of freedom.
But thousands are still behind bars, waiting for legal representation and hoping for someone to stand up for them. And we cannot stop here.
From 23rd–29th November 2026, we will be holding our Fundraising Week to raise support for more people who desperately need our help.
We have reached 300. Now, let us reach even more.
Your donation could help secure someone’s freedom. Your support could bring someone home.
Join us. Give hope. Fund freedom.

On 26 October 2026, we participated in a stakeholder engagement on research findings on security management at checkpoints across Adamawa, Taraba, and Benue States, organised by the Centre for Peace Education and Community Development and Dataphyte Foundation.
The engagement highlighted concerns about extortion and human rights abuses at checkpoints, drawing from interviews with security personnel and road transport workers. Our Executive Director, Oluyemi Orija, called for greater public awareness and reaffirmed Headfort Foundation’s commitment to supporting victims of human rights violations.
A key outcome was the establishment of the National Committee Against Extortion and Human Rights Abuse, with NARTO as Chair and our Executive Director, as Secretary.
At Headfort Foundation, we believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We remain committed to promoting accountability, protecting human rights, and ensuring that victims of abuse have access to justice.

Well done! Now, we await the EXECUTION of the recommendation.
It must not be another file in the cabinet.
Five weeks ago, on the clear directive of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, I inaugurated a 10-member Independent Investigative Committee to establish the full truth of the deaths in NSCDC custody in Niger State.
As a government, the findings are clear and sobering. Thirty-three lives, including fourteen minors, were lost in what the Committee has established as a preventable custodial tragedy. The evidence points to severe overcrowding, inadequate ventilation, prolonged exposure to extreme heat and dehydration, and a systemic failure of duty of care within the detention facility. These conditions, rather than any disease outbreak, led to the fatalities.
In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, this administration remains unwavering in its commitment that every Nigerian life matters and that justice must not only be done but must be seen to have been done.
As a Ministry, we have wasted no time. The full report has been transmitted to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for immediate judicial action. Officers who attempted to conceal, disrupt, or destroy evidence will face immediate suspension and full accountability. Comprehensive institutional reforms of the NSCDC will be driven with urgency and precision.
Above all, support for the bereaved families and the survivors remain a top priority; because under this administration, we remain keenly committed to ensuring that Nigerians get the full measure of justice they deserve.
I commend and deeply appreciate the entire Committee for their diligence, integrity, and commitment to justice. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Jonathan Kure, mni (retired Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services) and with Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN (former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School) as Secretary, they presented a thorough and professional report after five weeks of rigorous fieldwork.
Also, my special thanks to the other distinguished members of the Committee: retired AIG Hosea Hassan Karma; Professor Olayinka Buhari (Professor of Histopathology and former Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital); a representative of the Minna Emirate Council; a representative of the Niger State Government; Alhaji Liman Sulaiman (National Secretary, Miners Association of Nigeria); Deji Adeyanju (lawyer and human rights activist); Mrs. Zainab Suleiman Okino of Blueprint Newspaper; and Dr. George Agbakahi (Public Affairs Analyst). They have done the nation proud.
The Ministry of Interior's @MinOfInteriorNG independent investigative committee has finally submitted its report on the #Minna37 custodial slaughter.
And guess what? Every single "official excuse" the government gave when this tragedy happened has just been shredded.👇
BREAKING: FG panel says 37 miners died of suffocation in NSCDC custody
A ten-member independent committee set up by the federal government to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger state, has identified the cause of their deaths.
The committee found that the miners died from asphyxiation, a condition in which the body is deprived of adequate oxygen, potentially leading to unconsciousness, organ damage or death.

Minister @BTOofficial (Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo) has the report. The evidence of suffocation, unauthorized arrests, and evidence-tampering is documented.
Now, we demand execution:
📍 Handcuffs and public court dockets for the suspended officers.
📍 Full implementation of the compensation payouts without bureaucratic red tape.

Their thank you, appreciation, the smile on the faces, the expression of the gratitude that came from their heart shows your seeds aren't in vain. We are not stopping until the battle is over. Bring in that your 5h, 1k, 2k and more, it's a freedom someone is in need of.
WE SAID 300. WE DID 300. AND WE’RE NOT DONE! 💃🏽
Sometimes, the impact of our work is best understood by hearing from the people whose lives have been changed. The thank-yous. The relief. The joy of being able to move forward after facing a system that can feel impossible to navigate alone.
There are people who still need legal representation. Families still waiting for answers. Lives that could change if someone steps in to help. So, while we celebrate these 300 lives, we’re asking you to help us reach even further before the year ends.
Your donation could help someone else get the legal support they desperately need.
Help us do more before the year runs out. Donate today:

If 300 lives could be reached, imagine what we could achieve together before December ends.
The target has been met. The mission is far from over.
