EQUITY GRANTED SPOTLIGHT APPEAL
Equity found out today (Friday 7 November) that we’ve won permission to appeal the court judgment on our Spotlight case. This is welcome news, and we’ll take forward the case with and on behalf of thousands of Equity members, seeking to achieve fairer access to the industry.
Permission to appeal isn’t granted lightly, however, it shows that our case that Spotlight’s purpose is for performers to find work, has, in the judge’s words: “real prospect of success”.
As with the original case, there is no guarantee that legal action will be successful, but we welcome the opportunity to lay out the arguments, and we’ll keep fighting against barriers to accessing work in our political lobbying, campaigns and industrial work too.
Whatever the outcome of this appeal, we will always stand up for Equity members and take a stand on the issues that matter to you.
Find out more about the appeal on our website: equity.org.uk/news/2025/equi…

SELF-TAPES: We're demanding a better, fairer casting system.
Performers have had enough of self-tape requests with unrealistic deadlines & demands - which is why we're pushing film & TV bosses to establish fairer casting methods in our negotiations with PACT. Watch this space.
It was a wonderful, inclusive exchange and collective experience for all of us involved. None of it would have happened without the sheer force of will and belief in the importance of theatre in and for any community that is palpably at the core of @claybodytheatre . – at Manchester, England

“The arts are not the cherry on the cake — they are the cake.”
Opening a debate in the House of Lords yesterday, Melvyn Bragg said the UK should realise the full potential of the arts to transform our economy and society.
Thrilled to see this and it's absolutely well-deserved. Congratulations to Claybody and everyone involved in the production.
