If you think autistic people can't be leaders, maybe you're just buying into the stereotype. Look again? #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
As autism becomes better understood, some of we autistics are using it as an excuse. But that's a two edged sword - sometimes we are at fault. If we can't be guilty of anything, then we're not fully human. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
If you're thinking of joining the Bayeux Tapestry ticket booking queue at 10am, you may like to know in advance what it felt like to go round the exhibition while autistic. #BayeuxTapestry #Autistic helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Autistics are not all helpless children - some of us are utter prats. And that's part of our humanity. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
The world's not a very happy place to be autistic but raging about it may not make the change we need happen. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Is it realistic for an adult autistic to visit the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition? Yes, but know what you're getting into and do your prep. This was my experience. #Autism #BayeuxTapestry helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
If you're communicating change to an autistic person, you really need to be literal. Thinking carefully about your words can prevent misunderstanding and feelings of being betrayed. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Is change impossible to manage for autistic people? I don't think it has to be, but it requires a bit of thought. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Change can be utterly terrifying for autistic people like me, but there are ways that that can be mitigated in the workplace. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Lots of people now know that autistic people find change hard - but do they understand why? I didn't myself but I've tried to pin it down. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…

I don’t always mention these things but it’s World Suicide Prevention day. I’ve spent many many days in the last 3-4 years not wanting to be on the planet due to feeling entirely worthless. Suicide rates are far far higher in the autistic population. I decided to stick around because of my daughters. I’m starting to see value in myself but it’s a very slow process. Check in with a friend if they’ve been quiet, sad or are going through a really tough time. Maybe go and spend a little time with them, and if you’re feeling very low please please know the world is far better with you in it x
Putting an autistic under pressure to hide their autism or - brutally - "not be autistic" - is likely to have the exact opposite result to what's wanted. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
For some kids (and parents!) "back to school" is a joyful experience. But my autistic experience was very different and your young person's might be too. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
24 August is Ukrainian Independence Day so it's a good moment to think about autistics affected and displaced by conflict. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Standing up for yourself while autistic is tricky - if people are already not liking you, they may not hear what you want to say. But there are ways we can empower ourselves a bit. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
It's really common for we autistics to see things in black and white, good or bad - we may not seem to have nuance or shading in our thinking. Inspired by a colleague I've been ruminating on why. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
We autistics are often thought to be "difficult" but in fact if you realise that neurotypical conflict-resolution techniques can actually make things worse for us, it could all be much easier. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Autistic people seem to be natures bullying targets - there's something about us that makes others want to pick on us. Not to say we can't be bullies ourselves either. It's part of the mental health load of #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
Your manager puts a meeting in your diary - there's no indication what it's about. Do you immediately assume it's something bad? If you're autistic I bet you do. #Autism helenjeffries.wordpress.com/…
There's a tendency to infantilise disabled people - to treat us like children. When it happens at work, sometimes it not only doesn't help, it can actively prevent us performing. #Autism
