we moved to san francisco and reached millions in ARR with @gojiberryAI in less than a year.
that makes people curious about the idea.
but the cofounder relationship deserves just as much attention.
you can spend months looking for the right startup idea.
then pick your cofounder after three coffees because you “have complementary skills.”
Paul Graham’s advice on founders is simple: choose people you like and work well with.
sounds obvious.
until you realize how little a good conversation tells you about working together.
you both want to build something big.
you both like the market.
one builds. one sells.
great.
what happens when a customer says the product is useless?
when the launch flops?
when one of you wants to pivot and the other wants six more months?
that’s where you find out how the partnership works.
Paul Graham compares startup pressure to a dog pulling at a sock: if the relationship can be pulled apart, it will be.
so before you commit, build something together.
small enough to finish.
real enough to involve customers.
hard enough that you’ll disagree.
then pay attention:
can you challenge each other without making it personal?
do you follow through when the work gets boring?
can you admit when the other person was right?
do disagreements actually get resolved?
that last one matters.
you can walk out of a meeting with a decision and still carry the argument into every conversation after it.
and finding someone you work well with is only the beginning.
the relationship needs work as the company grows.
say when the workload feels uneven.
say when you’re losing conviction.
ask what’s frustrating them before it becomes resentment.
before you split the equity, find out how you handle a bad week together.

How to make your ICP say “Please take my money!”
theres a method you learn in YCombinator to compress a month of GTM into a few days.
The goal is to figure out if customers will actually pay, or if they're just being polite.
Here's how:
1. Ask Claude to analyze competitor websites, customer reviews, Reddit complaints, and pricing pages.
2. Identify problems people already spend money to solve, not just problems they complain about.
3. Talk to 10 potential customers as soon as possible.
Phone them, email them, contact them on LinkedIn.
Never ask "would you use this?"
Ask instead:
→ How do you solve this today?
→ How much does it cost you?
→ What happens if you do nothing?
→ When did you last pay to fix this?
→ Who controls the budget?
4. Watch for red flags:
"Cool idea" = no signal.
"Keep me posted" = no urgency.
"Can you send pricing?" = mild interest.
"Can we start a paid pilot ?" = real intent.
5. Put a price on the table.
"We can solve X for $Y/month. Want to get started this month?"
Then shut up.
If they say no, ask why. Don't discount immediately.
6. Feed every conversation back into Claude. Ask it to challenge your assumptions and identify what would actually make someone buy.
7. Use @gojiberryai to find more prospects showing relevant buying signals. Test your hypothesis against the market.
The point is NOT to get people to validate your idea!
It's to find evidence that they're willing to pay for it.

We paid $20 for this UGC.
The video is now at 110k+ views on IG.
We've published 7000+ UGCs in less than 2 months.
It’s a numbers game. Most reels don’t take off, but the ones that do bring in dozens of signups with a credit card on file, which is pretty wild.

one of our co-founders just had a call with another founder who made it into YC.
and he came back with a story i haven’t stopped thinking about.
small team. 4 customers. all signed in the last 5 weeks.
when asked where those customers came from, the YC founder said:
“people cleaning up a mess they didn’t create.”
he meant people who’d just stepped into a new role and found a broken process waiting for them.
his product helps ops teams fix customer onboarding, so those are exactly the people he wants to talk to.
but he doesn’t message every head of ops with a new job title.
he waits until they start talking about what they want to change.
one of his recent customers had just joined a B2B software company.
a few weeks in, she commented on a LinkedIn post about onboarding:
“currently untangling this. every new customer gets a different process depending on who sold the deal.”
that was enough for him to take a closer look at the company.
growing sales team. complex handoffs. enough customers for inconsistent onboarding to become a real headache.
so he sent her this:
“saw your comment about onboarding varying by salesperson. where does it usually break first: the handoff from sales or getting the customer to complete the next steps?”
she replied:
“the handoff. we spend the first kickoff figuring out what was promised.”
they started talking. that conversation turned into a customer.
what stood out to me was how he picked her.
the job change put her on his radar. her comment told him what she was working on, where it was breaking, and why it mattered now.
think about what the first few months in a new role look like:
-> checking what you inherited.
-> asking why things work this way.
-> choosing what to fix first.
and plenty of people do that thinking in public.
a new sales leader asking how teams handle territory planning.
a new finance lead discussing a painful month-end close.
a new customer success director asking why renewals keep becoming last-minute emergencies.
each of those is an opening, as long as you can actually help.
his process is simple:
step 1: find people who recently moved into roles that own the problem you solve.
step 2: check whether the company has a realistic need for your product.
step 3: read their posts and comments for a specific question, frustration, or project.
step 4: reference what they said and ask one question that helps you understand the problem.
step 5: listen to the answer before deciding whether to suggest a call.
if the problem sits outside what his product solves, he lets it go.
if there’s a fit, the next conversation has a purpose.
this is the part we built @gojiberryai for. it surfaces prospects through job changes and topic engagement, so you can build your outreach around what people have actually shared.
try it today:
find someone settling into a new role.
look for something they’re trying to fix.
ask a question worth answering.
