The newsletters are the latest addition to the The Caldwell Archives online, with documents, artifacts, maps and photos of Bluffton's past. These archive files have been scanned, organized and presented as an online educational resource for public access. Artifacts of the Heyward House #2. Many foods that we think of as southern staples; rice, sesame, peanuts, okra, peas, hot peppers, field peas, watermelon and benne wafers, (pictured), were brought to America by enslaved West Africans.

Built in 1853, the Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church was saved from flames during the June, 1863 firing on Bluffton. Later purchased by nine Freedmen, this church stands testament to empowered people who have kept the faith for over 167 years in our town.

The Town of Bluffton is in the process of updating its historic resource survey. Citizens may see people canvassing the Old Town Bluffton Historic District & the adjacent Goethe Road, Buck Island Road, & Simmonsville Road corridors. They will be taking pictures & gathering data.
