Trump’s new deal converts $11.1B in Chips Act funds into a 9.9% U.S. government stake in the struggling chip giant.
Investors are spooked:
Trump openly pressured Intel’s CEO to resign, then bragged the company “gave us $10B for the United States.”
Intel’s press release rolled out praise from Microsoft, Dell, and others... but the subtext reads like a hostage note.
And Fitch says the deal doesn’t fix Intel’s core problem: lagging demand.
Intel stock jumped when Trump first rattled the saber, but fell 1% after the deal went public.
Activists warn this sets a precedent - a president leaning on CEOs until Washington owns a slice of their companies.
