My last "day" at the amazing @CockshutHillSch.I've had an incredible 6 years full of some great moments and I've been lucky enough to have had THE best history team going.I'm officially handing over the history leadership reins to @MissAThomas. Thanks team CSH for everything!

Plans to drive literacy and reading more in history are underway. Hope more students lose themselves in a book and gain some relevant historical perspective of key time periods. Thanks @histassoc for the idea and the reading list. #history #reading

Great blog. Lots of food for thought for history. Links nicely to our new focus on whole class reading and literacy.
How does your school/classroom compare on these scales?

Today I taught year 9 "Why was D-day significant?" from the brilliant @RobertPeal's 20th century textbook. The history did the talking&it was possibly the best lesson of the year. Students left still debating amongst themselves if Stalingrad or Dday was more significant #history

The language was challenging but the academic history was so engaging students were enthralled. Simple but so effective. And linked perfectly to this that I read by @MaryMyatt today. #challenge #historychat #nothingbutthebest

A fantastic day spent at @WestLondonFree. Very insightful and great to see the brilliant teaching and learning that happens every day. Student who behave brilliantly and simple but effective resourcing which allows teachers to teach great lessons. Thanks @RobertPeal for arranging

And when I say "simple resources" I dont mean that little thought has gone into them. The textbooks and course booklets are full of detail; intelligent and challenging history which I cant wait to use back at @CockshutHillSch #historychat

So impressed with my 7C5, 9H5 and 9C1 with their efforts at answering challenging historical enquiry questions today. At the end of a long term students were recalling months of work from memory to answer these questions. Reaping benefits of constant modelling and recall #history

An excellent cultural opportunity for our students. Thanks @MissAThomas for all your efforts arranging! My highlight was the Tudor hats 🎩
What a brilliant afternoon at Blakesley Hall bringing year 8’s study of Tudor England to life! Thanks to all who supported this trip, it’s been invaluable to our students! 📚🤓🏆@HistoryCSH @ctbclaire1

@LouisEverett1 @RobertPeal Hi both. I've been looking for a fantastic history department to visit to see what I could learn to take back to mine. I've been recommended by a colleague @PrincipledEd that West London Free School might be willing to show me the great work you do?

Would love the opportunity to maybe come and see what I could learn. Please could I ask if this is possible? Thanks so much! Dan

Inspired by the latest articles in @histassoc and a great conversation with @PrincipledEd about medieval religion, I've made some changes to our lessons to add a non-white/European element to showcase some extra, important and relevant history. #historychat #meanwhileelsewhere
Thanks for the help Mr Harris!

@Counsell_C a colleague of mine is reviewing his history curriculum and is concerned about the best way to assess it. I’ve done my best to be helpful but wondered if you could recommend a few bits to read to support his thinking please? #genuinelyaskingforafriend
