There were a lot of accomplishments for Minnesotans to celebrate from historic investments in our schools and infrastructure to Paid Family & Medical Leave and Universal Meals. Thank to all who played a part!
Gov. Tim Walz, DFL legislators, commissioners and hundreds of supporters gathered for a bill signing party on the Minnesota Capitol steps to celebrate their achievements this session #mnleg

The @Vikings hosted a pep rally for our Accessible Playground Project and not only revitalized our community and excitement for our playground plans, presented a check to contribute to our playground fund. It's a great day at Glen Lake!

Today, Minnesota got universal school meals over the finish line — an essential, bipartisan bill that ensures every child is fed at school.
Thank you to @SydneyJordanMN and @SenGustafson for carrying this bill. I can’t wait for @GovTimWalz to sign this important bill into law.
Fantastic news for Minnesota students and families!
Minnesota, WE DID IT!!
Universal school meals passes the Senate and now heads to @GovTimWalz for his signature. Thank you to bill authors @SydneyJordanMN and @gus_heather and everyone else who made this historic day possible! Our kids deserve it. #mnleg #FreeSchoolMeals

Students like 8-year-old Glen-Edward Shivers deserve to see themselves in the classroom.
We urge #mnleg to strengthen the Increase Teachers of Color Act. Minnesota must get more BIPOC people into the teaching profession and do more to keep them there. #edmnvotes #edjustice

As someone who relied on free and reduced-price lunch as a kid, I know that children with full bellies do better at school.
Let’s pass universal school meals to ensure every student is fed and no child has to worry about the stigma of food insecurity.
Free and reduced-price lunch eligibility is used to determine schools' needs, so an alternative metric would be needed if the state moves forward with universal school lunch. minnpost.com/state-governmen… via @MinnPost

The primary obstacle at this point to passing universal schools meal at #mnleg is that FRPL status is used to calculate compensatory revenue as described by @CallaghanPeter here:

Putting this out into the #mnleg hive mind: using medicaid direct certification for identifying students who qualify for free meals makes FRPL forms obsolete.
Don't need 'em for calculating compensatory revenue, and won't need 'em once we pass universal meals. Time to let go.

A great bday present in the form of some great results! 72% of Minnesotans polled at the State Fair believe in allocating funds to provide free menstrual products to our students. I’m proud to author legislation that tackles menstrual equity and aims to end period poverty in MN.

Today we announced that Minnesota will expand the availability of free meals to 90,000 new students this school year.
This project means fewer kids will go hungry at school. As a former teacher for 20+ years, I know that this is hugely important to help students succeed.
