Hakeem Jeffries, at the event, told Newsday that Suozzi's "shove it" comment was a product of Suozzi & fellow Democrat Laura Gillen being “heavily targeted by Republicans, particularly given the fact that the Nassau County executive is the Republican nominee for governor

Suozzi went on to describe this reelection bid as “probably one of the most painful races I’ve ever been through – certainly my wife has been through. Painful every day.”

Rep. Tom Suozzi told a Democratic event Saturday he wants to be reelected to help improve people’s lives, but also so he can tell Trump’s “MAGA Machine,” Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johson to “shove it up your…!”

Suozzi rattled off being targeted by a Trump-MAGA aligned PAC with $11 million in ad spending; by Johnson visiting Nassau Couty twice to raise money for his opponent; and JD Vance attacking him as "the worst congressman" in the U.S. during claimed "official" trip to his district

Long Island Rep. Andrew Garbarino's stand on behalf of humane livestock conditions -- as one of just 3 Republicans in May to buck GOP leaders on the so-called "Save Our Bacon" Act, a Farm Bill provision -- wins him the endorsement of the American Meat Producers Association 1/2

Garbarino is included n a bipartisan slate of 30 Congress members the AMPA endorsed, who opposed that provision that it says would override state animal-welfare laws like California's Proposition 12 and Massachusetts' Question 3. The matter could come back up in the lame duck.

Hit by LiPetri over making millions in the stock market, Rep. Suozzi said, "I haven't traded a single stock since January 2025," but adds, "The reality is that I bought some stock in 2023 when I was out of Congress that happened to do very, very well."
Suozzi repeatedly pushes to get LiPetri to name one issue he differs from Trump on, saying at one point "You won't say anything you disagree with. You don't have any guts ...You don't have any courage."

Gillen is being challenged by the GOP town of Hempstead receiver of taxes Jeanine Driscoll. Gillen lost to a Republican in what was an open-seat race in the 2022 mid-term election; but won in 2024, when Black voter turnout was higher. Now, we're back to a mid-term election

Jeffries talked about the importance of rallying behind Gillen and getting out the vote . He also talked about what was at stake as Democrats seek to seize the House majority, and there was mention that Jeffries himself could become the first Black U.S. House speaker.

Whatever happens Nov. 3, the hovering reality for Schumer, 75, is the ascendence of younger voters and the AOC-Mamdani effect focused on age and succession issues. But if the Senate flips, friends say, it will in the shorter term be time for detractors to do some fence-mending.
In the Newsday interview, Schumer says he's seeking to remains the Democratic Caucus leader again - no matter which party prevails Nov. 3; deflects about whether he will seek reelection in 2028; and friends say it might be time for those who counted him out...to reassess.

The fighting chance that Senate Democrats now hold, say experts and lawmakers, is a product of Schumer’s political skill, a Trump-induced political environment that few could have imagined a year ago, and luck — or all three, if not necessarily in that order.

Having faced episodes of liberal fury, low approval ratings and even calls to step down as Senate Democratic leader, Schumer tell Newsday his motto has remained: "Persist, persist, persist" ... and now the race for Senate control is now "neck and neck." newsday.com/long-island/poli…
