The Conservatives have announced a new multi-billion-pound ‘Iron Dome’ missile defence system if they win the next general election, which they say will protect Britain from missile and drone attacks. The integrated system, dubbed the "Britannia Shield", would join up advanced radar, upgraded command and control systems, and new interceptor missiles and counter-drone capabilities to combat attacks from drones to long-range missiles. Exclusive: Kemi Badenoch will publish a 30,000-word booklet summing up the principles of her new Tory Party at conference. It is 95 pages long and inspired by ‘The Right Approach’, a 1976 pamphlet by Keith Joseph which laid out the tenets of what became Thatcherism. The Sunday Times has been handed a copy. It is the clearest distillation to date of what the Badenoch project stands. ‘The Right Way’, as it’s been titled, reveals her values and underlying approach in six broad areas - Economy - Energy - Government - Country - Defence - Borders Just don’t called it ‘Badenochism’. The leader has her own word for it: “Kemistry.” I suspect we’ll referring back to this foundational document for a long while to come… Have a read over here👇 thetimes.com/article/2643828…

With rising #threats from adversaries and a weakened focus on #European #defence from the #DonaldTrump administration, our #government must step up to properly #invest now in our #ArmedForces … and being timely will also ensure value for money for the #British taxpayer.

Government source confirms Burnham has *not* committed to hit 3% defence spending by 2030, despite appearing to do so at PMQs, saying: 'His position is unchanged'
Andy Burnham seemed to commit to spending 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 in response to Q below. "I've made that commitment, made it very clear... and I have done, for a considerable period of time. "I was in Ukraine last week for a very specific reason to repeat it on the world stage there. So the honourable gentleman can be absolutely sure of that". But the PM *hasn't* committed to 3% by 2030 - the Nato target the UK has signed up to is 3.5% by 2035. Did he mishear?!

Additional defense spending increases by our historic and very close ally, the United Kingdom, are critical for our collective security. 4/
