Gotham, Batman’s fictional city, was inspired heavily by New York City. Batman’s creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger, were both Jewish New Yorkers. Their immigrant city experiences helped shape one of the greatest stories in American pop culture.

This is exactly how a 1930 film imagined New York City would look like in 1980: An predominantly Art Deco society filled with expansive highways and tall skyscrapers in the same style.
