Pessimism leads to passivity, passivity leads to defeat. Revolutionary optimism must always he upheld.

My annoying commie take is that “late stage capitalism” is meaningless theory slop that doesn’t actually describe a qualitatively new stage of capitalism and tries to replace the use of “monopoly-capitalism” because the latter has actual explanatory power.

Equality sounds radical in a world addicted to hierarchy.

I’m genuinely shocked to see libertarians speaking out as much as they are

Perfect example of internalized neoliberal extremism right here: Total abandonment of values and acceptance of corrupt authority as long as it benefits you.
Agreed. No excuse for murder. Not my point at all. Why do so few here miss the point I’m making? It’s so simple! His own father warned him not to be stupid and engage. He engaged. He’s dead. He wouldn’t be if he’d stayed far away from the ICE action. That’s a choice. Own it.

Matt Walsh and these other right-wing empty men who think they're avatars of über-masculinity particularly hate Alex Pretti because he exemplified the virtues they love to extol but are too cowardly to actually embody. They cosplay as trad men by dressing up in campy plaid shirts and sitting in podcast studios with a log cabin aesthetic. Alex Pretti went to the street to fight for causes he believed in, protected and helped others in both how he protested (he was helping two women when ICE grabbed him) and in his work as an ICU nurse. He lived the values they pretend defines them, all while they lack the courage to ever do or risk anything. He's a reminder to them of what they're not: a mirror showing their own fragility. That's why they feel vicariously strong watching ICE agents shoot him in the back and killed him.

I have never ever heard of any freedom loving people have an aversion to reading and study. In fact, literacy campaigns are among the first efforts of liberated societies. Something to consider.

Solidarity to all peoples of this world who rise up to destroy hierarchical power: to dismantle the state and the rule of capital, to destroy patriarchy, white supremacy, and imperialism, and to implement direct democracy and libertarian socialism in their place.

Outside of the low literacy rates, something else that’s severely lacking is curiosity and inquisitiveness. Ppl are way too comfortable taking content at face value with no desire to research topics further. They barely read follow up tweets!

The longer I work in psychiatry, the more & more I'm reminded that poverty is one of the most harmful factors (if not the most harmful factor) affecting peoples' mental health.
