This is so timely and so very important. If you are able to find your way to Quebec City on Wednesday, November 4, you need to be here. Convened by the @CDIPH_ChaireJIP at @universitelaval's Faculty of Law, we have an incredible opportunity to spend the day with Tomoko Akane, the President of the International Criminal Court.
I'm looking forward to joining two of the sessions, a public symposium panel with wonderful colleagues exploring the imperative of "Confronting International Crimes: Building an Architecture of Justice," and then a conversation with President Akane following her evening keynote address. And there is much more...
President Akane's visit comes at a time when the @IntlCrimCourt is under unrelenting attack from powerful governments, led by Donald Trump and Marco Rubio, determined to defend absolute impunity for atrocity crimes and dismantle the vital project of international justice that human rights defenders, civil society organizations and 120+ other governments (including Canada) have so assiduously built up over the past 25+ years.
It is an incredible opportunity to listen, learn, engage, strategize, and lay out the road for renewed collective action.

🚨 New from @hrw on race for new UN chief: “For years, @Lana_Nusseibeh has used her position to vehemently deny and divert attention from the UAE’s war crimes in Yemen and support for the abusive Rapid Support Forces in Sudan,” said HRW’s @BrunoStagno.

Not UN Secretary-General material at all.
Sudan asks Lana Nusseibeh: Would you back an independent investigation of your country supplying weapons in Sudan's civil war & its mass rapes?
Doesn't answer but reiterates a commitment to Art 100 of UN Charter & that she has left UAE foreign ministry. Says to refer Qs to them
[no acknowledgment of UAE's documented role in the war & resulting humanitarian crisis]

⛔️ A Palestinian father was shot dead by an Israeli sniper while trying to retrieve his son’s body after Israeli forces killed the child.‼️
⛔️The footage was documented by journalist Hassan Salih, who was later killed by Israel on May 13, 2025, while covering the atrocities in Gaza.‼️

Number of Journalists killed in wars:
Vietnam: 63 journalists in 20 years.
World War II: 67 journalists in 7 years.
Gaza and Lebanon: 300+ journalists in 3 years.
This violates Article 79 of Additional Protocol (I) Geneva Conventions, but international law clearly doesn’t apply to Israel.

Yes Mr Blair:
Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere need an end to genocide, Israel's militarised colonisation and apartheid.
They need respect for Intl Law and justice.
They also need no more advice from those who have profited from their misery for too long.
Be kind. Step aside

UN says it's genocide.
HRC says it's genocide.
PVA says it's genocide.
ICJ says it's genocide.
ICC says it's genocide.
Anyone who knows anything about genocide says it's genocide. Everyone is lying except Israel who are committing genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Still not a word on the need for accountability #sudan
Lana Nusseibeh on UAE [documented] role in aiding/abetting atrocities in Sudan:
Horrific conflict in Sudan will be a litmus test of the incoming SG; stopping it...will be my top priority
I have taken leave of absence from UAE MFA
[hard to separate her candidacy from her country as she has repeatedly denied UAE's role supplying weapons to RSF]
Will support fact-finding missions

The most immoral army continues to slaughter children. Nearly daily.
UN bodies and human rights groups have documented the pattern in detail. Anyone who denies it should read these reports.
We keep receipts and there will be accountability.
