After the Pistons’ 14-win season, Cade Cunningham had FOMO watching the playoffs. He texted someone he knew would understand.
I spoke with them both for an exclusive on how that text sparked Detroit’s two-year turnaround:

Hunter Patterson retweeted
Injuries to Jalen Duren & Ausar Thompson weren’t enough to keep the Pistons from a win.
Friday was just another example of why Detroit’s depth makes it so dynamic:
“That’s where we can create trouble. We have so many people that can be used as weapons.”

Here’s more on Jalen Duren’s right hamstring strain, Ausar Thompson’s right ankle sprain and what they could mean for the Pistons:

Jalen Duren (right hamstring strain) has been ruled out tomorrow against the 76ers. Ausar Thompson (right ankle sprain) is questionable.

Duncan Robinson on playing in Miami:
“Last year, I don’t think I had as much control over my emotions coming in here. … This year it was very different. Different feeling, just at peace with where I’m at and the situation that I’m in.”
John Collins on the Pistons’ depth:
“We have true depth. Not only that we have young legs, hungry guys, we have older veterans who have seen a little bit more of the league. Just a nice balance of everything.”
J.B. on the Pistons’ 3-point shooting:
“That was a point of emphasis over the summer, to be able to make some of those decisions that helped find that space. We know we're still finding our way defensively. I don't think we've done our best that way yet.”
J.B. on the Pistons’ offensive flow tonight:
“We have so many people that can be used as weapons, that we can just take what the defense gives us and we don’t have to try to over manipulate things.”
J.B. on Paul Reed:
“He plays to his own beat and I think that’s hard for opponents to catch a rhythm when he is doing that. … There’s no person I’ve ever been around that works harder on his game than P Reed.”
Pistons hang on to beat the Heat 128-111 to improve to 2-0. No update on Ausar or Duren yet.
John Collins had a team-high 23 points and 7 rebounds on 5/6 from distance. Paul Reed had a big game off the bench with 19 and 11 boards.
Taurean hasn’t played today but he saw John was frustrated after not getting a foul call and sprinted out to cool him down. Subtle thing, but solid vet move right there.
Pistons have held the Heat below 30 points in each quarter. Miami is shooting 36.4% from the field so far. Defense is still ridiculous.
So Cade has 11 points, Ausar and Duren are still back in the locker room and the Pistons are up 103-80 heading into the fourth quarter.
