In African traditions, love was never passive. Men showed it through action, gifts, songs, sacrifice, and sincerity. Pursuit meant honor. Romance lived in the effort, in the community, in the family it united.

Do men lose interest when women take initiative, whether just a little or a lot? Does that shift the dynamic between us? And if it does, does it change the balance of power in love?

I’m a lover girl and a hopeful romantic. I still believe in marriage, in being wanted, in someone chasing me a little. Lately though, it feels like I’m the one doing the chasing. Have the tables turned?
