Shane blinked for a second. It actually meant a lot that the newer generation of players were looking up to him and Ilya. "That means a lot. I mean we try our best I guess." he said before realizing he spoke for Ilya too. Fuck. "I meant.. I. But I guess Rozanov is the same." he quickly corrected himself hoping it didn't seem too out of the ordinary he said that.

Shane took a second to think. He was actually right. If he had gotten the spot he surely deserved it. Of course they still had yet to face each other out on the ice, but Shane wasn't dumb. He was just petty.. "I shouldn't have made assumptions. I apologize." he said apologetically. "It's a good quality I think." he said before clarifying. "To believe in yourself. And be confident. You're gonna need it." he said opening up slightly more. He was truly hoping this kid was being genuine and he wasn't playing an act to take advantage of Shane's good will. Ilya would probably hate him for it, because how can he be nice to the damn rookie that took his spot with barely any prior experience in the league? But Shane decided to give him a chance. To at least be open to get to know him.

Shane's eyes widened. Fuck. He didn't want to make a scene. I guess there was only so much of his emotions he could hide. He truly sucked at lying too. He took in a deep breath before speaking once more. "I.. I'm sorry." he was a bit speechless and didn't know how to explain his feelings without explaining... everything. Barely anyone knew so there was no way in hell he would come out within the first 5 minutes of them ever meeting. "It's a long story.. And it's been.. a rough couple months." Shane admitted truthfully while deliberately staying vague.

Shane scoffed slightly. In his mind he was thinking how the hell would he not get a challenge at Toronto. All the NHL teams hated Toronto and usually gave it their all when they would play against them. "Alright." he said with a bit of an indifferent tone. At this point he really just wanted to get the interview over with and go back to Ilya who was waiting for him in his apartment. Shane would much rather be there than here right now.

Shane nodded in silence, once again not trying to be rude. This youngster had a certain energy about him that Shane just didn't really like. "So. What made you want to go to Boston then?" he asked, maybe with a slightly judgy undertone. Sure Ilya left the team, but it was a pretty bold move as a rookie to trial for the spot that was held by one of the best players in the league. Then again Boston did give him the spot, so he isn't completely incapable but still. Shane felt resentment despite his compliment even. Normally he would be flattered but he felt this probably was some sort of mask he was upholding. So he took another sip, awaiting the answer.

Shane was always a bit awkward meeting new people. But he reciprocated the handshake and shook the other's hand with a polite smile. "So I guess that makes two Ottawa players in the NHL now.." he said before taking a sip of his water, trying his best to not seem nervous or uncomfortable.

Roman had only just signed with Boston, and the media was already building up the hype around his first game against Montreal next week. So naturally, someone thought it would be a good idea to pair him with Shane for a pre-match written interview. Two Ottawa-born players, now facing each other for the first time at the professional level. Shane wasn't particularly thrilled about it, especially considering he and Roman hadn't even properly met yet. He was feeling a little resentful considering he took Ilya's spot but he also didn't want to be too quick to judge. Luckily, at least there were no cameras involved. He arrived at the media room with some water in hand, dropping into the chair across from Roman with a polite but somewhat guarded smile. "Hey..." @OfficialRixie
