In today's Chapter 2 of Susie Federer's Miracles in American History, we read about young George Washington at the Battle of Monongahela. 🫡 In 1755, 1,400 British troops marched over the Appalachians to seize French Fort Duquesne, near present-day Pittsburgh. One of the wagon drivers was 21-year-old Daniel Boone. On July 9, eight miles south of the fort, the column was ambushed by French regulars, Canadians, and Potawatomi and Ottawa warriors. Federer writes that the British, unaccustomed to fighting anywhere but an open field, lost more than 900 men. ⚔ Colonel George Washington, then 22, rode back and forth through the battle carrying orders for General Edward Braddock. Braddock was killed, and every officer on horseback was shot except Washington, who carried Braddock from the field. Braddock's field desk fell into French hands, exposing British military plans. Federer says the French used that intelligence to win later battles at Fort Oswego, Fort William Henry, Fort Duquesne, and Carillon, and that the British losses pushed the Senecas and Cayugas toward the French. 🏳❎ Washington's own letter to his younger brother, John Augustine, written from Fort Cumberland on July 18, 1755, sits at the heart of the chapter. He had heard circulating accounts of his death and a dying speech, and he wrote to contradict them. He had been protected, he said, "beyond all human probability or expectation." Four bullets had passed through his coat and two horses had been shot out from under him, yet he escaped unhurt while death leveled his companions on every side. ☠ Federer also quotes an Indian warrior who spoke about the battle later. He said he had fired seventeen times at Washington without bringing him to the ground, and concluded that Washington was never born to be killed by a bullet. 😮❗ What an amazing story of God's miraculous work in George Washington's life! The same man who would go on to help lead the American colonies to independence and establish the great nation we now live in and intercede for. 🙏 How are you praying for our nation this week?

Stay tuned as we go through Miracles in American History, chapter-by-chapter, by Susie Federer. 🙏🇺🇸 Our first story starts in 1731, when a Spanish commander boarded a British merchant brig off Florida and insulted its captain. That insult touched off the War of Jenkins' Ear, and the conflict eventually reached a young Virginian's family. Lawrence Washington, George Washington's older half-brother, was one of the sailors recruited by Admiral Edward Vernon. Washington's estate was later named Mount Vernon in the admiral's honor. 🏠🫡 By 1746 the wars had grown larger. France was fighting Britain, and King Louis XV sent out what the book calls the most powerful fleet of its day: 73 ships, 800 cannons, and 13,000 troops. Its commander, Admiral d'Anville, planned to strike Nova Scotia, burn Boston, and ravage New England. Boston had good reason to be afraid. 😱⛵ Massachusetts Governor William Shirley called a day of prayer and fasting for October 16. Citizens filled the Old South Meeting House, and Rev. Thomas Prince asked God to send a tempest across the water and scatter the ships. Historian Catherine Drinker Bowen describes what happened as Prince finished. The sky darkened, the wind shrieked, and church bells rang out even though no one was in the steeple. A hurricane followed. It scattered the French fleet as far as the Caribbean, and lightning set off gunpowder magazines on several ships. About 2,000 men died, Admiral d'Anville among them, and roughly 4,000 more were sick with typhoid. God answered Massachusetts' prayers! 🙏🌪💨 The chapter then moves to Philadelphia, where the threat of war had spread a revival through the colonies. Benjamin Franklin, a printer there, organized Pennsylvania's first volunteer militia. He also proposed a general fast, which the province approved and printed in the Pennsylvania Gazette in December 1747. Philadelphia was not attacked, and that was an answered prayer. ✝🙏 Let us thank God for the amazing miracles He has performed throughout history for America! In this gratitude, let us continue to intercede for our nation!

Lord, open the eyes of Americans, that they will see the follies and evils of communism creeping into our nation. Remove the scales from their eyes, and may Americans rise up and vote the Bible. Cause the counsels of the DSA to stumble and fall apart. 👇tinyurl.com/5xwr4kf4/?utm_so…
