“Igbo cuisine is the youngest cuisine in Nigeria,” and “All Igbo soups were discovered during the war.” Is that really what you believe? It's hard to wrap my head around the idea that 56 years ago, the Igbo people didn’t have soups like Onugbu or Oha. You talk about the war as if it were centuries ago, yet many of those who fought in that war are still with us today. Now let’s dive into the soups themselves. If you’ve ever tried making Onugbu soup or any of the ofe ede, you know just how labour-intensive the process can be. During the war, did our people really have the luxury of time to pluck bitterleaf, trek to the streams to wash it, return home to cook and pound cocoyam, and search for ogiri and palm oil? By the time they finished cooking, their enemies would have likely invaded them or something! I hate some of the topics we discuss on this space and the lies we spread.
