ALT 🎨🌱 ANNOUNCEMENT: I’m proud to introduce the decolonial art movement I’ve founded: Decolonial Minimalism. @everyone Rooted in Filipino identity and resistance, it reclaims space, form, and meaning from colonial structures. This movement is an act of healing, memory, and radical imagination. 🌏✨ Explore the beginnings of *Decolonial Minimalism*: My first essay and founding artworks are now live! 📖 Read the essay: https://wannabelabs.com/decolonial-minimalism.html 🎨 View the founding works: https://wannabelabs.com/decolonial-minimalism-founding-works.html Your thoughts are welcome as this movement takes shape. #DecolonialMinimalism #decolonialminimalist #FilipinoArt #DecolonizeArt #DigitalResistance #IJWBAA #digitalart #digitalartist #ArtofthePhilippines #decolonialartmovement #artmovement #newartmovement #minimalism #minimalist #ContemporaryArtMovement

ALT Honored to reach a new milestone in my art journey 🎨✨ My books, IJWBAA Book 3 and Decolonial Minimalism, have been officially accepted into the collection of the National Museum of the Philippines 🏛️📚 Deeply grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding digital art, Filipino identity, and decolonial aesthetics 🇵🇭💻️ One step at a time 🐾🌱 #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism #DigitalArt #PhilippineArt #NewMedia

ALT MoCA L.I.ghts 2026: Antiquity to Innovation (October 22–26, 2026), hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Long Island and the Patchogue Arts Council, marks the first museum physical exhibition of IJWBAA. https://sites.google.com/view/mocalightsny Curated by John Cino and Beth Giacummo, the event features the animated digital artwork Inabal (1200 x 1920 pixels) projected on the gallery facade. Grounded in Decolonial Minimalism, the piece translates traditional Bagobo woven motifs into dynamic light and code, asserting digital art as a vessel of cultural sovereignty where ancestral memory continuously weaves into the future. #MoCALights #MoCA #DecolonialMinimalism #DigitalArt #newmedia

ALT A little something I’m excited to share ✨ - my🥇first museum exhibition My work, Inabal, has been selected (thanks to the curators/organizers) for Lights on MoCA L.I., a curated international projection program of MoCA L.I. Lights 2026, presented by the Patchogue Arts Council and MoCA L.I. Really grateful and honored to see Inabal become part of this international program. ALT “Why don’t we see your work in local physical galleries as often?” 🎨✨ It’s a question I get asked a lot, and I wanted to take a quiet moment to share a sincere answer from the heart—about finding my true canvas, embracing Virtual Reality, and choosing legacy over traditional walls. 📖 Read the full note, scroll through the slides. https://www.instagram.com/p/DeVJ9Gjk3hj/?psln=MWgxdGlwc2RwZXFmZA== Thank you for walking this journey with me and keeping your minds open to new ways of seeing. 🌌 #DigitalArt #Techspressionism #newmedia #DecolonialMinimalism #ArtJourney

ALT 🌿 Honored to be part of "Imagine Regenerative Futures" in Phnom Penh, curated by Miguel of Solarpunk Cambodia & Clean Energy Week! My featured piece, "Bagobo", redefines resilience through decolonial minimalism—distilling indigenous patterns into geometric forms to reclaim agency and honor ancestral roots. 🎥 Catch a glimpse at 0:18! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DeSiBRQBSpF/?stkn=cDdyZ2JkY2MyNnll Prints available via IG DM to Miguel or Solarpunk Cambodia ✨ #ImagineRegenerativeFutures #Solarpunk #DecolonialArt #IndigenousWisdom

ALT I retired wannabelabs.com and switched to Google Sites to keep things simple, free, and easy to maintain. Managing custom web hosting was taking extra time and effort that I'd rather spend making art and writing. The new site https://sites.google.com/view/ijwbaa/home gives me a clean, reliable place to share my projects, academic news, and updates with zero hassle. You can still find old pages on the Wayback Machine, but all new work lives at the new link! #DigitalArt #newmedia #artandtechnology #computerart #DecolonialMinimalism #IJWBAA

ALT I deeply look up to Imelda Endaya and Nunelucio Alvarado (our new National Artists in Visual Arts) because they used their art to give voice to the nation, women, and marginalized to uphold true Filipino identity—a mission I continue in the digital space to prove new media can decolonize and honor our history. photo: ai gen - ijwbaa, imelda, nune #nationalartistsph #imeldaendaya #nunelucioalvarado #ijwbaa #digitalart

ALT I wrote a lesson plan on “Decolonial Minimalism as a Critical Art Framework" for scholars, researchers, educators and students. https://www.academia.edu/175245481/Decolonial_Minimalism_as_a_Critical_Art_Framework_A_Lesson_Plan_for_Contemporary_Art_Education #artandtechnology #computerart #newmedia #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism #DigitalArtPH #digitalartist #lessonplan

ALT My heart goes out to Yayoi Kusama and the immense struggle she endured throughout her life. The loss is profound, as she was a singular force who transformed pain and hallucinations into a timeless, universal language of infinity. I feel a deep connection to her obsessive dedication to art as survival; she once said creating kept her from giving in to her mental illness, and that level of resilience is something I strive for. We share that need to use a repetitive visual language—her infinite polka dots, my minimalist geometry—as a way to build structure, quiet the mind, and reclaim personal space. She blazed a path of uncompromising authenticity, showing me that the most powerful art is born from embracing our deepest internal battles. Her legacy, and her enduring fight, will always inspire my own journey. ALT Leaving my IT job for art was terrifying. 💻➡️🎨 I was battling health struggles 🏥, constant self-doubt 💔, and early rejections 📉, but I channeled all that fear directly into my work—even calling myself IJWBAA to mark my vulnerable start. 🌧️⚡ Taking that leap changed everything. 🚀 Today, I am the creator of Decolonial Minimalism 🏛️✨ and the first Filipino recognized in Techspressionism 🇵🇭🖼️, with my computer art cited in academic research on Google Scholar. 📚💻 My work has been featured in The Wrong Biennale 🌐🎨, and my two-volume books are now archived in major global institutions 🌍🏛️, including the Gallerie degli Uffizi 🇮🇹, Museo Reina Sofía 🇪🇸, and the National Museum of the Philippines. 🇵🇭🏛️ photo credit - IJWBAA with his 🛵 new toy bike, Honda Navi #artandtechnology #computerart #newmedia #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism DigitalArtPH digitalartist

ALT 4 Years of IJWBAA ✨🎨 Four years ago, I picked up a stylus with a single goal: to speak the unspoken through pixels and light 🖥️. What started as a quiet act of defiance has transformed into a powerful 🚀 practice of unlearning, 💡 ancestral memory, and radical self-expression. Across these 1,460 days, I’ve broken my own rules, 💔 started over, 😭 poured my grief into the canvas, healed, and found my voice again 🌱. From defining the roots of Decolonial Minimalism to seeing this work take up space in major museums and libraries worldwide 🌏, every setback was a lesson and every gallery wall a testament to community support 🔥📣. Thank you for being here through every phase 👀. For believing in the message. For carrying this vision forward with me 🙏🏽. Four years in, and we're just getting started. Here’s to shaking up the status quo 🌊, honoring where we come from. #artandtechnology #computerart #newmedia #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism #DigitalArtPH #digitalartist

ALT I’m back! ✨ If I’ve been a bit quiet lately, it’s because I needed to step away and navigate some rough seas in my personal life. When your heart is heavy, it’s hard to find the headspace for creativity, inquiries, or shows. To heal and find my peace again, I took a much-needed hiatus—chasing clarity from the streets of NYC, to the waves of El Yu, and the cool fogs of Baguio. 🌊🏙️🌲 Slowly but surely, the spark is coming back. I’m gently stepping back into my digital art world and rebuilding my confidence day by day. Thank you for your patience and for sticking around. Digital canvas is loading... 🎨🖌️

ALT Happy National Creativity Day! 🎨✨ To every creator, dreamer, and digital wizard out there—keep pushing those pixels and breaking the boundaries of your canvas. Creativity isn’t about perfection; it’s about having the courage to bring something completely unique into the world. Never stop creating, never stop exploring, and most importantly, never lose your spark. Stay inspired, IJWBAA #nationalcreativityday #artandtechnology #computerart #newmedia #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism #DigitalArtPH #digitalartist

ALT Pintado and Pintada reimagines Visayan tattoo traditions as living geometry—two figures of concentric circles, diamond grids, and zigzag rhythms standing like mnemonic sentinels. IJWBAA channels ancestral embodiment into chromatic symmetry, where pattern is prayer, ink is inheritance, and the body itself becomes archive. A duet of dignity, this work honors courage, lineage, and the sacred choreography of skin and story. - learn more about decolonial minimalism founding works here https://wannabelabs.com/decolonial-minimalism #artandtechnology #computerart #newmedia #IJWBAA #DecolonialMinimalism #pintado #pintada #DigitalArtPH #digitalartist
