🎥 Wow, absolutely atrocious ending to the mixed doubles semifinal at the French Open. 😮 At 19-18 in the decider, Gicquel-Delrue & Feng-Huang have just played the longest rally of the match! And as the players get their breath back to restart play, the umpire decides to issue a red card and deduct a point for the French pair for overshooting the 25 seconds between the points... (I counted, they were about five seconds late.) Match point to China and they win. Badminton's shot clock – only occasionally used this year – already feels like a useless addition to a sport that is anyway played at a breathtaking speed. Sure, there are some unnecessary delays and gamesmanship but the umpires can be given the discretion to deal with such situations. But that's for another day. This an example of how it should NOT be used. Sure, there had to be warnings and a yellow card before this, but this is nonsensical umpiring, not to follow common sense and let play continue. By issuing a red card for a few seconds' delay, the umpire actually ended up delaying the match even further and completely, unnecessarily ruining the finish. Read the bloody room. No one would have complained – not even the Chinese – at that point and Delrue was anyway ready to get the play going quickly. So poor. And it would be rubbish to say the umpire was just following the rules here.

The other major box office story this week belongs to Netflix. Yes, Netflix. For the first time in its history, Netflix has reported box office numbers for one of its films, LA BOLA NEGRA… - Opening with a $69,375 per-screen average (PSA) across four theaters in LA and NY. - That’s the second-highest PSA ever for a non-English-language film, behind only PARASITE. - It’s also the highest PSA ever for a Spanish-language film. Significant numbers for a film destined to be among the bigger awards contenders this year, but also a historic moment for Netflix. Its commitment to— and philosophy around — theatrical releases is changing right now. Maybe more stories will be written once NARNIA arrives in IMAX for a 50-day exclusive run, but it’s starting to happen now, and that’s a great thing.

Sarandos has effectively identified American programming as the $NFLX weak link. His memo emphasizes the need for bigger, more culturally resonant hits in the United States and Canada. That is unusually specific for an announcement replacing the company's global content chief.

The ugly side of the corporate world: you can help build an empire, dedicate years of your life to it, and still find yourself out the door when the game changes. The Bela Bajaria–Netflix exit raises some uncomfortable questions about loyalty in business. thefilmworld.co/news/bela-ba…

With the first week’s data in, Google is expected to give ISL live streams more featured space from this week onwards, including customised notifications and premium homepage placements. Live streams are also now available at better frame rates, with 1080p at 60 FPS. The opening-week numbers have surprised industry experts. Hopefully, #IndianFootball can sustain this momentum longer. #MGISL @KhelNow

ATP announces major changes planned for 2028. ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi has outlined a series of proposed changes to the men's tour. Here’s what could change: - $350M in player compensation: Projected annual total by 2028, excluding Grand Slam prize money. - Bigger bonus pool: Increasing from $21.5M to $50M. - More player support: $25M in year-end support for players ranked in the Top 250, plus around $30M annually for pensions covering 300 players. - Ranking points overhaul: More weight for results at the biggest events, removing incentives to chase extra tournaments after disappointing results. - Calendar changes: Dedicated weeks for ATP 250s, 500s and Masters 1000s, with plans to reduce the number of 250 events. The proposed structure includes 10 weeks of 250s, eight weeks of 500s and 10 Masters 1000s. - Saudi Arabia Masters 1000: A 10th event at this level will join the tour in 2028. - Doubles changes: The ATP is reviewing doubles formats and draws. Any prize money reallocated would go toward singles qualifying and early-round payouts. The goal is to reward results at the biggest events, improve player financial security and ease the pressure to play so many tournaments. Source: atptour.com/en/news/an-open-…

In an effort to treat all of the 4 upcoming ‘BEATLES’ films equally and maximize ticket sales, Sony is currently considering the following: • Releasing all four movies on the same day. • Hiding individual box office returns. • Offering a 4-pack of tickets to encourage fans to buy tickets to all 4 movies at once. After covering the Congress-led Opposition protests through last week, I felt there was a shift today. Until now, the protests seemed largely driven by cadre mobilisation. Today, there appeared to be more charged public participation, particularly from people who said they wanted to join the October 10 protest but couldn’t. The number of lawyers who joined the march to the Supreme Court was significant. Posters were more aggressive, sloganeering was louder, and there was a palpable sense of grievance over Saturday’s detentions. NSUI workers and cadres from UP and Haryana were present in good numbers. Supporters of the Hoodas especially mobilised by Deepender Hooda have been adding considerable strength to the protests throughout. And despite the differences between Congress and SP, SP cadres and Bhim Army activists were a prominent presence at Barakhamba Road today.

Today we are announcing our biggest bet yet on our own silicon. Starting next calendar year, we will scale our Maia family to multi-gigawatt deployments, making it the primary inference system for our own product and services. And we’re introducing Maia 300, which delivers 40% more tokens per watt compared to leading GPU-based systems. We are already deploying Maia 200 across the US, Europe, and Australia, delivering up to 1.7x more tokens per watt across experiences in Teams and Copilot. Our goal is to build on the full-stack efficiency gains we’ve already seen, while continuing to bring the latest innovations from across the ecosystem into our fleet.
