#ISSNNationalCentre, India Achieves a Significant Milestone
The Indian ISSN National Centre at CSIR-NIScPR is one of a network of over 93 national centres worldwide. The primary functions of the ISSN National Centre are:
Assigning ISSNs to serials published from India.
Registering allotted ISSNs in the international database in Paris (ISSN Portal).
Promoting the use of ISSN in India and acting as a link between publishers and the ISSN Network.
The ISSN Centre crossed the milestone of assigning 1000+ ISSNs during 2025 in a single financial year, a feat last achieved in 2016. This achievement was highlighted by the Director of the International Centre during the ISSN Directors' meeting held in Paris in October 2025.
Continuing this achievement, in August 2026, the ISSN National Centre India once again reached a significant milestone by assigning 1094 ISSNs, with still four months remaining in the year.
Following 2016, the Centre has now crossed the 1000+ ISSN mark in two consecutive years—2025 and 2026.
This is a significant achievement for the ISSN National Centre, India, reflecting its continued efforts towards strengthening serial publication identification and scholarly communication in the country.
