GeoWorks war schnell und technisch beeindruckend. Soweit ich weiß in Assembler geschrieben. Sehr schön auch das Look and Feel, damals an Motif angelehnt.
GeoWorks Ensemble 2.0, 1993. The GEOS team's PC desktop, which ran on an 8088 XT that Windows 3.1 would not even install on.

apple has introduced a new input modality on the mac without demonstrating a compelling new interaction model to pair with it at all or even any meaningful changes to the user interface for touch. that has never ever happened in the history of apple, & that has got to send shivers down the spine of anyone following the company. worse, there is no face id, there is no cellular connectivity, & there is no meaningful new design. what is happening?! i am completely lost.
We’re glowing with excitement over the new MacBook Pro. You’ve gotta touch it to believe it.

Guten Morgen liebe Welt. Erstmal Kaffee. #GutenMorgen

In 1998, Brian Kernighan wanted a regular expression engine small enough to fit on one page of a programming book. Rob Pike went to his office and came back an hour or two later with roughly 30 lines of C. It supported ^, $, ., and *, using little more than pointers and recursion. Kernighan later featured it in Beautiful Code.

Das habe ich gerade im Artikel „Dutch Governmetn to cut 16% of its workforce“ gelernt: 1.

This is honestly shocking. Three months ago, Hong Wang was awarded the Fields Medal for resolving the Kakeya conjecture in three dimensions. Today, OpenAI released a proposed proof of the conjecture in ALL dimensions. And that’s not all. It also announced a proposed existence proof for quantum chromodynamics and a proposed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis. Experts say that, if confirmed, these would be Nobel prize and Turing award level discoveries respectively. A journalist just asked me: “What remains for humans to do?” I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that more and more problem solving will be automated. But humans will remain crucial in determining the direction of discovery. Deciding which problems are worth solving. Because the value of a discovery depends on our needs, our priorities and the kind of world we want to build. There will be a shift from problem solving to problem setting. I also think there will be huge individual differences. People with strong critical thinking skills, creativity and imagination will be supercharged by AI. People without those skills risk surrendering to it. I’m particularly concerned for children, who may never develop these skills. I think epistemic literacy - how to distinguish information from knowledge - is the single most important skill we should be teaching.
