I couldn't find this in the online English version when I checked, but I do recall the campaign rhetoric about cutting privileges, waste of public funds et al.
Permits are a one-time loss of revenue, while a fleet, old or new, means ongoing taxpayer-funded vehicles & maintenance. A proper feasibility is essential to weigh the trade-offs.
I hear today that NPP MPs’ salaries will go into a central account. If true, vehicles would also require a public-funded fuel quota.
I’m for pragmatic solutions... good salaries & perks for public servants aligned with the private sector. But I’m not for populist rhetoric to win votes, only to walk it back later. That's business as usual taking advantage of people desperate for good governance.
This administration must honor its promises about curtailing privileges & earning public trust. I know the fans are excited but if you're paying attention it's still a 7/10 for me upto now with many factors considered.
I want this government to be the change it promised the people & that means walking away from populism, being pragmatic & most of all being honest and upfront. Wouldn't that be refreshing?
This message below from @Dr_HariniA is what appealed to middle class folk like me & many more. This must translate into a governing philosophy that is upfront & honest about the challenges it faces when governing even if it goes against their own rhetoric during the campaign... Dealings with the central bank and IMF would be good examples.
I am rooting for this government but that doesn't mean I will be silent or make excuses if I feel their actions are straying from the ideals of good governance we all fought for.

But this was mentioned clearly in the policy document. The promise made by NPP was to remove permits but make a car pool for every 225 MP to use for their work.
