This morning, I met a delegation from the National Private Educational Institutions Association–Uganda (NPEIA) at the Speaker's Chambers at Parliament, led by Hon. @MichealMawanda1 and the association’s executive. They raised pertinent issues about the status of private schools in the country.
During the meeting, we observed that private schools may be privately owned, but they offer a public service that complements government.
They run all our nursery schools, 73% of primary schools and 75% of secondary schools, and employ over 187,000 teachers. I cannot imagine Uganda’s education without them.
I was impressed that the proprietors were not asking for handouts. They are asking for a fair and predictable tax regime.
I support their call for a harmonised, single-tax system that ends the overlap between central and local government levies, and Parliament will carefully examine their proposals, including affordable credit through @UDB_Official. I also asked NPEIA to partner with the government in understanding why so many children drop out of primary school.
I look forward to joining them at their Regional Education Conference on 10th December to get to know them better and appreciate their contribution to our education sector. Together, we will build a stronger education system for every Ugandan child.

Building a tax-compliant society starts with informed communities. URA's door-to-door campaign brings tax sensitisation directly to households and businesses, providing an opportunity to address concerns, clarify tax obligations and mobilise more taxpayers to contribute to Uganda's development.
Our team has reached out to all businesses in Lower Customs and Upper Customs areas in Mpondwe revealing businesses that have been onboarded and paid for two financial years and more.
"Through these engagements, the public is embracing voluntary tax compliance, understand the importance of paying taxes and making their fair contribution to the tax base," Gerald Bwambale, the Tax education team lead stated.

Earlier today, Assistant Commissioner Public and Corporate Affairs, Robert Kalumba @rkalumba1 , represented URA today at the launch of the 12th Pakasa Forum 2026 in Butabika, in partnership with @VisionGroup.
The forum is set for 21st November. It will bring URA face to face with over 1,500 business owners, who we hope will become tax ambassadors in their communities.
Expect answers on TIN to NIN, EFRIS enrolment and more, in keeping with our weekly #BuuzaKamisona and #ASKTheCG programme.

WHAT:▪️ The House mourned former MPs Hon. Olivia Kwagala Kabaale and Hon. Okwera Peter, with UGX 10m contributed to each burial.
▪️ The Speaker briefed MPs on the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.
▪️ Reports on the Science & Technology sub-sector and the completion of 30 bridges, including Amodo Bridge, were adopted.
WHY: MPs raised urgent concerns, including:
▪️ Rising food prices
▪️ Storm damage in Tororo
▪️ Highway robberies on the Mukono–Katosi road
▪️ Mt. Elgon land being transferred to UWA
▪️ URA applying excise duty retrospectively and charging taxes in USD

HOW: Government responded with these undertakings:
