Some Personal News
Best thing about working in sports journalism is finding & telling stories
So when life gives you a chance to be a part of a great one you don’t hesitate
Starting today I’m a full time sports reporter w/@FORUMCOMCO at @SiouxFallsLive/ KSFL & @midwestsportstv
This is great coaching but I’m a little surprised NDSU can still get beat by it ten years later (or that more people didn’t pick up on it)
#Lobos HC Jason Eck said he took advantage of NDSU’s exotic-blitz look on 3rd down — something he did back in 2016 to NDSU during his time at South Dakota State:
He said it changed the way NDSU played them on 3rd down for the rest of the game:
My working theory is either someone drank a little bit too much out of the Jug after the Vermiracle and misplaced it in 2021 or it’s under a pile of jock straps in one of the two schools equipment rooms 😂

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the 'Little Brown Jug'? Should the South Dakota State/South Dakota rivalry game have a traveling trophy? @SDCoyotes AD @SchemmelJon thoughts⤵️

While I know SDSU/USD fanbases will pick out things Vitzthum & Jackson say as slights or insults (in some cases even former rivals too)…
They’re both pretty fun guys to have in a rivalry. Better to have guys with personality then some wooden plank that spouts endless cliches
Matt Vitzthum made reference to 'the 6 inches in front of your face' at his press conference this morning, which reminded me of Al Pacino's legendary locker room speech from 'Any Given Sunday'.
If you've never seen it watch it right now, it's incredible.

The records speak for themselves.
But @Drake_Mikkelsen's coach says it’s the work away from the ball that really stands out.
9 catches.
103 yards.
2 TDs.
Another Lennox win.
The @GopherFootball commit is this week’s Farmers Union Insurance Player of the Week.

I can understand this side. I’ve spoken to SDSU & USD alums from 80s & 90s who have no memory of the Jug. Frankly if both keep playing as Top ranked FCS teams it’ll have conference title trophies at stake😃
Still, be nice at least to find the Jug & put in a museum at least
Agreed on the end.
Plus a lot of the trophies that get created through corporate partnerships end up being cringy
Put a base on it and let the sponsors fight for that name right.
If we can actually find it

"State vs U" Little Brown Jug Update!
We did not have to ask John Stiegelmeier if he knows where it is. Here is what he said, plus follow-ups.

You can bet Nashville, KC and Denver aren’t on here if they don’t build new stadiums
Good for the towns
Sucks for venue (hoops in a football stadium and getting rid of traditional older stadiums)

More good news. In addition to our 10 am pregame show, @IceBorg, myself and the team will be at the @JackIllustrated spot around noon for a pre-game Trick-or-Treat Jackrabbit Lounge special.
Announcing 'Gameday South Dakota'. Our crew (me, Borg, Marcus, etc.) will host a one-hour pre-game show live from Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium at 10 a.m. on Saturday. It's part of @SiouxFallsLive's continued expansion into local sports and news coverage. siouxfallslive.com/news/siou…
If a team holds Drake Mikkelsen in check he'll likely block them 20 yards downfield
And good luck trying to hold the Minnesota-bound Lennox senior at bay when it's thrown his way

Thinking of my wife’s family today
After nearly 12 years my in-laws had to put their dog Finn to rest
I loved that pooch & visiting him was always one of the best parts of a trip
I said my goodbye yesterday. He was ready to hunt & run wild again
Rest in Peace Pavel Chekov

My brother @IzaacSmith17.
He went 2/2 on FG's, including this one from 52, breaking his old school record set earlierthis season. Also, he went 4/4 on PAT's.
