How does our brain allow us to make sense of our visual world? Work led by @OliverContier w/ @Chris_I_Baker now out in @NatureHumBehav provides support for a theoretical framework of behaviorally-relevant selectivity beyond high-level categorization. 🧵

Hugely excited that this work with @martin_hebart and @Chris_I_Baker is now out in @NatureHumBehav !!!
By moving from a category-focused to a behaviour-focused model, we identified behaviourally relevant object information throughout visual cortex.

A trend I've really loved: Seeing all the flyers for different lab's presentations @VSSMtg! Here's a little collage of all the ones I've seen so far (found by using the #VSS2024 hashtag). If I've missed yours, please share it below!
It's @VSSMtg week! So excited to share this year's projects from the lab, including brand new research directions and some deep dives on foundational issues.
More info @ perception.jhu.edu/vss/.
See you on the 🏖!

In our new paper out today at @TrendsCognSci , @leylaisi and I argue that social interaction perception is a visual process--computed by the visual system and distinct from higher-level cognitive processes.

Our commentary on @quiltydunn @NicolasPorot @Ericmandelbaum's BBS target article is now out!
Find out why vision is compositional @ perception.jhu.edu/files/PDF…
Other commentaries are great too, but ours is the only one that required the cooperation of a cat.
Vision, like language, is compositional!
Or so I argue with EJ Green & @chazfirestone; we extend @quiltydunn @NicolasPorot @Ericmandelbaum's proposal that the Language of Thought pervades the mind, exploring object relations as a case study. Check it out! psyarxiv.com/trg7q

(B) Three shapes; the left and middle shape have the same skeletal structure but differ in surface properties, while the middle and right shape have similar surface properties. (C) Three colorful icons depicting the relation Containment instantiated by different objects: a phone in a basket, a knife in a cup, and a hat in a box.
