It’s so important to know and celebrate our history! 👀 In addition to the legendary coaching career of @MEWashington31 for @jayhawkwbb, she won a national championship as a college athlete and played on the U.S. National team, paving the way for women like Angel Reese and many others. @IfNotForThem
Flowers for the trailblazers like Marian 💐👑

Sometimes history is hiding in plain sight. Today, I stopped at an estate sale in our neighborhood. I found this 1962 yearbook from @KStateAlumni. I knew there weren’t any intercollegiate sports for women then, but wanted to take a look. Over 40 pages of men competing in sports - varsity, junior varsity, freshman team and intramural. Not shockingly, there were two pages about women participating in sports - intramural competition won by sororities, dorms and off-campus women. Does anyone know any of these women?
The history in plain site is the first-year women’s intramural director. She was actually a very famous basketball player. I’ll post tomorrow who she is - does anyone know? She’s included in the @IfNotForThem docuseries in production.

Important to note, @UCLAWBB is going for their first NCAA @MarchMadnessWBB Final Four in today’s game vs @LSUwbkb. It will not be UCLA’s first Final Four, however, as they played in the 1978 AIAW Final Four and won the 1978 AIAW Championship, led by @AnnMeyers and Anita Ortega.

Following tonight's @nyliberty game, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton told me what it means to her to see her mother, Yolanda Laney, get a street named after her. Really emotional moment @lockedonwbb. #WNBA youtube.com/shorts/FMXZjcp4O…

Coach Dick was the HC for Washburn Univ. Lady Blues, I was the ball girl for them. The way she let me run around pre-game, shoot-around, the lockerroom inspired me so much. Today she supports my career, @IfNotForThem
