The main thing Freddy Peralta is doing different over the last month is sitting 97. Did the Rays figure out something mechanically, or is it just adrenaline? That's the $100MM question

Posey says that the Giants will emphasize left-handed relief pitching after a long spiel about how walks killed them, so we can probably do the math on what that means for 14.5% BB% Sam Hentges

Posey puts a heavy emphasis on not giving up walks at the Major League level, but also seems to concede that the game has changed. He wants an effort to "increase stuff in our system and get it to the big-league level", and even says he doesn't care about walks in the minors

JHL’s opt out decision will be for 2/$41MM, would enter FA as a 29 y/o Boras client. Don’t think the bar to execute that opt out will be too high. So that’s a binary decision tree where he plays well enough to opt out, and you lose the intl marketability anyway, or he doesn’t.

Here’s the devil’s advocate on the Bader position: Cox running a .638 OPS vs non-position player pitchers after skipping AAA could be seen as a sign to start him in the minors. Cutting Bader to sign another 4th OF is effectively a $15MM+ roster spot. Bericoto had a 98 wRC+ vs LHP

Bader and Houser combined $24MM looms large here. Get off half of that and you effectively only need to add one starter signing to the payroll. Means an open 5th spot that should go to Birdsong in the 2nd half. Then again, a better manager would turn that spot into bullpen games.
SF RP threw the most SI/4S in MLB in 2026 (0.2% more than CHW). So you'd expect their bullpen reinforcements to have a good fastball. FA LHRP who grade out well on Stuff+: Milner and Hill thx to funk, Morejon, Vesia, Alvarado, Minter, Burke, T. Alexander, J. Romero, Soto, Strahm
Say SF plan is: Kenley Jansen, Brock Burke, keep Hentges, sign Tim Hill to NRI. Does that satisfy bullpen needs? That's probably an ~$18MM plan, which would mean near to or above a $200MM payroll before addressing the two holes in the rotation.
By the way, that’s 3 World Series appearances for the Rays in the last 19 years. Astros (4) and Rangers (3) only other AL teams to do that since 2008. None of those teams are in MLB’s top 10 media markets according to their own revenue sharing markets scores.
His 4-seam sat 96.5 MPH in his appearance tonight, t98.0. Only threw one slider at 83, but had a few changeups btwn 89-91
Sato has a good amount of RF in his career, so there is a plausible fit for the Giants. But it is unlikely that they would splurge on a bat, especially another LHH with highish whiff rates.

The top 5 spending teams in the 4 major NA sports vs the bottom 5 spending. NFL top/bot are equally bad at winning. NHL and NFL have a bigger disparity in winning than MLB, despite a massive gap in spending differences.
Take a look at the ages of all the Dodgers big contracts. Even without a massive CBA overhaul, they’re going to have to do a soft reset to get their prospects up sooner rather than later
