KEEP SWINGING — INVEST IN ONE When I first met Jack Countryman, he was 68 years young. This December, he will turn 97. Some of the greatest gifts Jack has given me are simple: his time, his listening ear, and his faithful reminders to trust the Lord. Through his example, I’ve learned that a man never outgrows his opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life. Paul understood that when he invested in Timothy. Faith was meant to be lived, shared, and entrusted to another man who would carry it forward. “And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” — 2 Timothy 2:2, CSB As I walk the back nine of my own life, I feel that responsibility more deeply. What Jack has poured into me, I want to pour into the next man. Who is that man in your life? Invite him to lunch. Walk nine holes together. Open God’s Word. Ask how he’s really doing—and make time to listen. You don’t need all the answers. Start by showing up. Jack, thank you for continuing to show up for me. As you approach 97, your life reminds me how far one faithful investment can reach. KEEP SWINGING. Invest in one. Last night, I stood watching Micah’s football team continue to honor him this season. As his dad, I cannot fully put into words what that means to my heart. These boys battled a top-ranked Page team with everything they had. Every rep. Every yard. Every down. When the game ended, the scoreboard read: Page 7. Independence 3. I saw heads hanging low. Young men who had given so much, feeling the weight of coming up short. And I wanted to wrap my arms around every one of them. Since losing Micah, I find myself looking up, moment by moment, with “Heaven on My Mind.” An amazing song by @tobymac Last night, my heart was with those boys on the field—and with my boy in Heaven. To Micah’s teammates: Keep your heads high. I saw your effort. I saw your courage. I saw you keep fighting for one another. That scoreboard could never tell the whole story of what you gave last night. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you. And I believe with all my heart that #22 is smiling down upon you, proud of the way you continue to honor him. Dads, may I share something from the deepest part of my heart? Your son needs to hear two life-giving messages from you: “I love you.” “I am proud of you.” Say them after a win. Say them after a loss. Say them on an ordinary Tuesday when nothing special has happened. Let him hear them when his head is hanging low. Let him know your love does not depend on his performance, and your pride reaches far beyond a scoreboard. If your son is within reach today, pull him close. Look him in the eyes. Tell him. MONDAY MOTIVATION | KEEP SWINGING ON THE BACK NINE Yesterday, Team USA entered the final day of the Presidents Cup three points behind. They finished with a 17–13 victory. (pgatour.com⁠) What a reminder for those of us on the Back Nine of life: It’s not how you start. It’s how you finish. Maybe you’ve had a difficult stretch. Maybe the score isn’t where you hoped it would be. There are still holes to play, people to encourage, and purpose to pursue. Trust God with the next shot.
