🇺🇦🇷🇺 UKRAINE REPORTEDLY RECLAIMS 14.8 KM² AS RUSSIAN POSITIONS COME UNDER PRESSURE NEAR ORIKHIV Ukrainian forces are reportedly conducting a series of successful counterattacks in the Orikhiv sector of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, clearing approximately 14.8 square kilometers of Russian-held or infiltrated positions despite two weeks of sustained Russian assaults. The reported operations followed the arrival of Ukrainian reinforcements, including elements of the 7th Corps, and appear aimed at reversing Russian infiltration around Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka and nearby settlements. East of Orikhiv, Ukrainian troops are said to have eliminated a Russian infiltration zone north of Mala Tokmachka, cleared the settlement’s northern section and recovered several positions in its center. Fighting continues over the remaining contested areas. Further west, Ukrainian units reportedly pushed Russian troops out of western Mala Tokmachka and restored control over positions along the railway and highway. Ukrainian forces are also said to have cleared Preobrazhenka, regaining the northern bank and much of the southern bank of the Konka River in that sector. Inside Orikhiv itself, Ukrainian assault troops reportedly forced Russian forces out of central positions and toward the southeastern outskirts. Meanwhile, Ukrainian units cleared the northwestern approaches to Novodanylivka and are attempting to consolidate positions farther north, potentially complicating Russian movements around Orikhiv. These are substantial local claims, but neither the total area recovered nor the individual territorial changes has been independently confirmed. The Russian offensive has not stopped. Russian troops are continuing their attacks from the west and have reportedly expanded their positions along the highway and adjacent southern tree lines. That distinction matters. The fighting around Orikhiv is not a simple story of one side advancing and the other retreating. Both armies are attempting to exploit gaps in the opposing defensive network, secure transport routes and establish positions that can support further operations. Russia’s infiltration tactics often depend on small groups penetrating weakly defended areas before reinforcements can establish a more permanent presence. Ukrainian clearing operations aim to prevent those scattered footholds from developing into a connected line of control. The railway, highway approaches and positions near the Konka River are particularly important because terrain and access routes influence how easily either side can move troops, evacuate casualties and sustain forward positions. If the reported Ukrainian gains are consolidated, they could disrupt Russian infiltration efforts and strengthen the defensive perimeter around Orikhiv. But clearing a position is only the first stage. Holding it against artillery, drones and renewed infantry attacks is another challenge entirely. For now, the reported counterattacks indicate that Ukraine is not simply absorbing Russian pressure in Zaporizhzhia. Its forces are also looking for opportunities to regain the initiative locally, even as Russian troops continue pushing elsewhere in the same sector.
