Today is National Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Awareness Day, also known as Red Dress Day. This date was chosen to honor the life of Hanna Harris (Northern Cheyenne), who was murdered in July 2013 and would have turned 32 today. “This is a day to honor the women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people affected by the genocide that’s been ongoing since 1492,” said journalist and activist Brandi Morin. And for her, it’s impossible to separate gender-based violence from the environment—and the fight for a healthier planet. “This violence is intrinsically connected to the land. Survivors are on the forefront of the fight for the land, because they know what it’s like not to give consent.” 🎥 Directed by @bmorinstories, shot/edited by @geordieday in partnership with @themeteor. You can take action by using @niwrc’s pre-written letter to urge your reps to pass the Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act and supporting and following creators ⬇️ @bmorinstories @illuminative @mmiwhoismissing @niwrc @ndncollective @rising_hearts @seedingsovereignty @sovereignbodies @strongheartsdv @wernative No more stolen sisters! #RedDressDay #MMIW #MMIP #NoMoreStolenSisters

Did Cherish try to access hospital ER prior? If so, did she leave hospital ER Room? Was she banned and not allowed inside? Did she succumb shy of the doors and passed? Was she dropped or dumped off? Well, no police investigation, and no information given to grieving mom.

Judge Couchard nails it! Child Welfare is a disaster, & lost common sense as Couchard points out. Fact is, with so many First Nations developing their own CW law, and 70% of children Indigenous, CW will soon be an empty shell, inerit. #abpoli #ableg edmontonjournal.com/news/cri…

If we replaced “health worker #burnout” with “workers practicing in unreasonable and unsafe conditions” we’d have a much more honest conversation about what in the health system needs to change. #cdnpoli #health

Young Indigenous mom messages me, her situation is improving as she was entrenched within child welfare. She has her own place now, both her children are with her, and CW has closed the file. I am currently looking for a Double Stroller for her baby and toddler. #Yeg

Can you still celebrate Canada Day and be an ally to Indigenous Peoples at the same time? Are the two mutually exclusive or can they intersect? Honest, innocent question.

In many northern communities those who are pregnant have to fly out ahead of their due date and give birth in hospitals far from home Entire communities are deprived of the process of birth. Deprived of that process and relationship Sit with that thought #CancelCanadaDay

Today I visited my Cree patient in the hospital. I’ve worked in the area for the past 6 years. I am the only doctor who works in Kehewin. After visiting, I introduced myself as the patients Family Doctor & as Dr. Makokis from Kehewin, and asked to see the patients chart /1
