The CRS has completed the inspection of the 44 km Tihi-Dhar section of the Indore-Dahod rail project in Madhya Pradesh. A 120 kmph speed trial was successfully conducted, and the overall infrastructure was found satisfactory, though minor issues involving bridge drainage and bearings need rectification. The section includes a 3 km tunnel near Pithampur, featuring ballast-less tracks, ventilation, an emergency escape tunnel and communication facilities. Train operations will begin only after rectification and final safety clearance; no opening date has been announced.

India and Nepal are planning a 136 km electrified broad-gauge railway line connecting Raxaul in Bihar with Chobhar near Kathmandu. The project is expected to cost over ₹40,000 crore (based on later reported estimates) and will include approximately 42 km of tunnels and 124 major bridges due to the difficult Himalayan foothill terrain. The project has not yet received final construction approval. Funding arrangements, project cost, gauge compatibility and land acquisition remain major challenges.
The 136 km Raxaul-Kathmandu railway project has moved forward with survey (FLS) and DPR completed. The India-funded project will connect Bihar to Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, improving travel, trade, and regional connectivity.
