I've been door knocking a lot in the past week, and I'm heartened by the responses I've gotten. Especially one sticks in my mind, that of an elderly gentleman who's faithfully voted for one party for 60 years, but has now lent me his vote. I've taken this away with me, as he said I should.
Residents voted overwhelmingly in a referendum in 2019 (93%) for the Summertown & St Margaret's Neighbourhood Plan to have a continuous south bound bus lane in Woodstock Road, and a segregated bike lane away from the traffic. Andrew Gant endorsed this.
The residents were betrayed

There's money for this, but not £200,000 for a bus route from Iffley to Westgate, or £300,000 for a bus route from Cutteslowe to Jericho. #Oxford

Residents are given weeks to take part in a consultation about removing parking. “Early ideas”, “redesign of Banbury Rd”.
“It will create an ambitious vision for how we will reclaim street space…”
People have seen where these consultations end, and it is no wonder they worry.
The Oxford City Council overwhelmingly voted against transparency about pollution levels inside the ZEZ expansion area.
True to form, now Labour, LibDem and Green have voted against independent councillor proposals to evaluate the impact of the traffic filters on businesses.
Today is the last day to fill out the consultation. The proposed changes are enormous. In Summertown this means removing parking from Banbury Rd.
Although the proposed changes will cause upheaval, few people know about the consultations. There is no mention of them on the official Summertown notice board.

Besides plans to remove on-street parking at the Summertown shops, there are also plans to build over the nearby Diamond Place car park. It's likely that, during the construction phase, the car park will be out of action.
Perhaps some local businesses should have been involved?
I took my elderly neighbour to an appointment at the Trauma Ward at JR Hospital. 3 people were needed for this: another neighbour to drive there, me to stay with her, and my husband to pick us up. We obviously couldn't take the bus -she is 90 and was going to Trauma Ward. I still cannot believe @OxfordCity turned down the request for more parking in the name of green policies.

Look beyond the pretty pics & fancy phrasing to see a clear intention to remove well used parking across various locations.
We urge Oxfordshires businesses & residents to provide robust feedback. And on May 1st send this County coalition packing.
