To combat a worldwide PPE shortage, @DukeEngineering professors and @InnovationColab tackled the task of turning the surgical helmet — which uses room air — into a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) — which uses filtered air
Duke Team Designs a Protective Respirator
A protective respirator created by a Duke University medical and engineering task force is now being used by Duke Health doctors as they treat patients with suspected cases of COVID-19

Proud to be a part of this project! Having a state-of-the-art studio with 3dprinters is only half the battle. The other half is the ingenuity of our colleagues across @DukeU @DukeEngineering iterating on designs and producing something that will save lives and keep HCPs safe.
Faced with a limited number of powered air purifying respirators (PAPR) for healthcare workers nationally, the Duke COVID-19 Engineering Response Team successfully repurposed surgical helmets with help from the @InnovationCoLab's 3D printers
