A London derby gets the Championship rolling again:
After what feels like the longest international break in history, Championship football is finally back. What better way to get things going than a London derby between West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers? West Ham went into the break after sharing the points with bitter rivals Millwall. It was a derby in which the Hammers disappointed at times, but they still fought back to secure an important point. They are now unbeaten in six league matches and have really started to click under Nuno Espírito Santo. Before the Millwall game, West Ham had won four successive Championship matches, with their attacking play looking exactly as it should. Now we will see whether they can pick up where they left off. One potential concern was an injury to Konstantinos Mavropanos. He was substituted in one of Greece’s internationals, although the issue is reportedly not serious. Meanwhile, Tomáš Souček could be on his way back after featuring in a friendly against Wycombe Wanderers last weekend. West Ham currently sit second with 15 points, two behind the leaders. At home, they have three wins and one defeat, with Charlton Athletic the only visitors to beat them.
Queens Park Rangers were 2–0 down at home to Preston North End last time out and played almost the entire match with ten men following Dennis Cirkin’s red card. Somehow, they still fought back to rescue a point. It was a remarkable comeback, although going four matches without a win is disappointing. In QPR’s defence, their recent injury problems deserve a mention. Had their key attacking players been available throughout those four games, they could easily have turned a couple of them into victories. Things would then look very good indeed. In truth, things still look pretty good. Sixth place after eight rounds is more than respectable, with only four points separating them from the top. Their away record stands at W2 D2 L0. Along with West Ham, they are the only side yet to lose on their travels. The main uncertainty ahead of this match concerns the centre-forward position. Rumarn Burrell is expected to miss a couple of weeks through injury. Richard Koné has returned to team training, but Julien Stéphan says he needs more sessions before he is fully fit. Justin Obikwu has also resumed training. There are therefore still questions over which attacking options QPR will have available on Friday.
👀 Keep an eye on
QPR’s team selection. Injuries, suspensions and international commitments could leave them fielding a considerably weakened side on Friday.
🔑 The key
QPR need to find a way to avoid spending the entire match inside their own half. The question is whether they can do that if their most important attacking players are missing.
💭 My verdict
West Ham United were in excellent form before the international break, and I see no reason why that should not continue. Things are coming together, and I think they will only get stronger. They face a very good Queens Park Rangers side here, but the timing suits West Ham. I expect QPR to be somewhat depleted, and I think that will prove decisive. West Ham should have enough quality to get the job done.
Prediction: Home win (⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5)

Norway’s head coach confirmed to TV2 that Erling Braut Haaland was not expected to play more than 60 minutes, and that he was pleased he managed 65. He didn’t think there was any injury.
