Leading with Integrity: Values, Systems and Service in Public Life – Soji Apampa In this commentary, @sojapa argues that sustainable growth depends on building systems that reward ethical conduct, enforce accountability, and reduce the friction that undermines trust in public and private institutions. From governments and businesses to investors, integrity delivers measurable returns through lower transaction costs, stronger governance, improved access to capital, and more resilient institutions. A compelling reminder that lasting leadership is measured not only by personal values, but by the systems and institutions that continue to deliver long after the leader has left. When push comes to shove, we don't all react the same way. Some of us: - Do the right thing quietly. - Look away and stay indifferent. - Take advantage of the situation. - Get gingered and ready to fight for what's right. You might think you know what you would do in this situation, but if you've ever faced a tough decision and wondered, "Why did I react that way?" Then you know it's not that easy. Take 2 minutes to complete the Integrity Persona Exercise and find out your persona. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Rebranding simple dishonesty as being 'sharp' or 'street-smart' is one of those norms we need to disfavor. We’ve created a culture where finding a loophole or exploiting a system is celebrated as a 'hack.' But let’s call it what it is: a micro-erosion of our values. Big corruption doesn't start at the top; it is cultivated in the quiet, private choices we make when we think no one is watching but our screen. Clicking 'not received' on a package we’ve already opened isn't clever—it’s the exact same spirit of deceit we complain about in others, just on a smaller budget. If we want a better society, we have to start by redefining what it means to be truly smart. Real intelligence builds and sustains; it doesn't bypass and break. Relearning good values starts in our immediate circles. Let's teach someone today that character isn't what we do for show—it's the standard we hold ourselves to when we think we can get away with a shortcut.
People are making videos on TikTok showing people how they can scam “TEMU” and bypass their 20k minimum order. Tomorrow now when Temu bands Nigeria from shopping from them, let us not act like we don’t know the reason behind it. They go as far as telling people how if they receive their goods, they should still click on not received yet so they can get a refund. All we ever know in this country is how to scam people. Tufiakwa!!!

It’s easy to judge a situation from the outside until a situation presents itself that test your belief. And don't worry—there are no wrong answers here. This isn’t a test you can fail, and your result doesn't make you a bad person. It’s simply about getting an honest baseline. "Leave them. They don't mean any harm. That's how things are done here." or "Don't mind them. That's how they behave." Followed by laughter to dispel the effects of what one just witnessed and nudge the observer into acceptance without causing a scene. You must have heard these statements or variations of them, or even heard yourself say them. That is one of the top signs you have accepted negative norms and built a life around them. The simple fact of the matter is that some negative norms build on the back of already existing ones. That is why ignoring them does not work. Speaking against them consistently is the best course of action. Read this article to know more signs and how to fix a negative norm.

You can be the voice of change in a broken system. One of the worst things you can do is misuse an opportunity when you are in a position to influence change. There is always someone willing to work for the good of everyone. Find them. Work with them. Build with them. Integrity does not thrive in silence. Be vocal about your stance, attract the right people, and work together to create the kind of lasting impact that moves society forward.

We have a habit in Nigeria of waiting until something is completely broken before we decide to fix it. And right now, some norms are breaking right in front of us, and nobody is batting an eyelid. This one is about clout chasing and Creators fabricating stories and writing misleading captions just to farm engagement money. We made a full video on this and five other norms we can no longer afford to ignore. Watch it here: youtu.be/VaTIBekA5Hs What are the norms you've observed that shock you? What can you live with? A society you complain about without ever lifting a finger to change it? Or one where you choose to play your part in moving the nation forward? One is a lazy approach, which wouldn't get us or you anywhere. You will simply be part of the rot. The other is a means you can achieve with small, intentional choices in your daily life. - Take a stance. - Pick up a challenge. - Call for collective action. - Find people you can work with. Do what you can to move the needle forward. Integrity requires consistency. Change requires consistency. So once again we ask, what can you live with?
