Sundarkand first was written by valmiki in sanskrit. Tulsidas just translated/rewritten ramayan into RCM in local language 500 years ago. RCM is widely popular than original ramayana hence no one reads sundarkand in sanskrit.

India is very expensive. In Italy, I get meat- breast pieces-at 10.5 € in very high quality markets. There are many markets where price is markedly lower. Assume that it lasts for two days for two adults. Milk is about 1.3. Assuming 1 litre a day. Average Salary is around €2000 (very conservative). At 190 per month, this is not even 10% of salaries and all protein requirements are met. In India, it is very expensive to eat high protein food.
